perf jimmy DNC: what about up2&3?

Post by Kor »

Hi all,
when i select performance "jimmy DNC". (with jimmy DNC up1 and two other organs on up2&3) the up2&3 are on "mute". When I "demute" up2&3, I still can't hear them, when I play them.
Also up1,2&3 don't seem to react on the damper, even whem it's switched on...
Does anyone know why? Is there a secret lock somewhere?
Hope to hear from you!
regards, Kor

Hi Kor

The reason UPPER 2 & 3 will not play is due the the FX send settings - these are set to "0" - if you change these then the instruments will play.
To change these:-
In STYLE PLAY MODE
Press MENU
Select Mixer/Tuning
Select "FX send"
Adjust values for UPPER 2 & 3 as desired

The damper settings for UPPER 2 & 3 are taken from the damper setting for UPPER 1
If you check the UPPER 1 Sound configuration for Jimmy DNC, you will see that the damper is set to "OFF"

I believe Korg set this up in this manner so that the Jimmy DNC would play exactly as they intended. The great thing about this fabulous keyboard is that you can get it to do whatever you want....

Hope this helps

Karmathanever, you really have a love hate relationship with your Korg, don't you bro ? I appreciate that most of the time you are lavishly salivating, but I recently read a post where your relationship seemed somewhat strained, perhaps even to the point of almost questioning your love and commitment.
I was wondering, can you sing and play "Every Woman In The World" by Air Supply?
Cause I suggest a little tweaking and "Every Pa2xPro In The World".
It doesn't have quite the same ring, I know, but give it a go champ, I think you can make it work! :D
hello i have been on this site since way back when and still peruse it, thanks.

Hi Pete,

Thanx for your help: i've got U2&3 working now! :D

The damper however, doesn't work: I'm afraid i don't exactly understand in what window i have to look. The obvious "menu- keyboard/ensemble" in style play isn't the right one...

Hi Kor

To change the damper, you need to be in SOUND mode for the UPPER 1 sound. You will find that the damper is set to "OFF" for the Jimmy DNC sound.

If you have trouble finding this, please let me know and I'll send you detailed instructions (I am at work right now  )

WAIT... just found it!! - see page 10 of the OS 2 upgrade manual (Pa2X-200UPG-EFGI.pdf) - it relates to the "Damper Mode" tab which has been added in OS2. Note that you will possibly need to change this setting for each oscillator for Jimmy DNC - just give it a go and save your results in a USER sound bank - can't do any harm

Let me know how you go...

Cheers

Hi all,
I pointed out this problem with upper 2 and 3 not working after I loaded
version 2.0. I believe It was corrected in version 2.1.
I would guess Kor has not updated to o/s 2.1.

Hi Chris

This is not an OS problem - UPPER 2 & 3 work fine - it is purely the way Korg have configured the "Jimmy DNC" performance (and maybe others - haven't tested them all)

- - the UPPER 2 & 3 "FX sends" are set to "0".

You can simply change these settings and the UPPERs 2 & 3 will play just fine...

It is not a bug or problem - just a little confusing when you first try to play the UPPER 2& 3 and they are silent.

Cheers

I didn't read the update OS 2.0 manual yet ( ), i realize now the there's a lot more to damper function, DNC, etc. I have study and try a bit more before I totally understand it all..
Thanks Pete for guiding me...
(And Chis is right: i still work with 2.0 -altough this is, as Pete pointed out, not the reason for not hearing the up2&3)
I think I'll be back for additional questions...

hoping to get get some answers again, then

reading the OS2.01 update PDF i see that Chis has a point after all. It says:

"The Performance “Jimmi Org. DNC” and the STS “Organ DNC” now have the Dry parameter turned on on the Upper 2 and Upper 3 tracks."
