ketron sd1 vs pa800/pa2x sound quality

Sure, Ketron does have great drums...and if on my next purchase...I want ONLY drums..I'm getting a Ketron.

With the SD1 in fact, the groove is not a simple audio file combined with the rythm, but an actual live drum set where the single instruments are seperated for each single bkey of the keyboard. This particular feature on the one hand allows you to wuse the grooves at different speeds without important changes on the intonation, and on the other hand, it allows you to arrange the rythm according to your own taste.

Check out the Groove function in the Korg.
It splits up an audio drum track and gives the splits a midi note per split.
These notes can actually be rearranged to alter the rhythm.
Hard part is finding suitable audio tracks in the first place.
I initially tried it will some of the Band in a Box Real Drums.
Better choice could be something along the lines of drums on demand.
Unfortunately I bought mine for the sd1 a couple of years ago. If I'd had the PA800 at the time I would have bought the version that has the drum instruments on seperate tracks, instead of a mix.

Just out of curiosity I sampled the Brush Live Drums on my sd1. The track has nothing more than an assortment of brush swishes , taps etc
The additional drums in styles like Orch Swing style are added by the midi drums.

Nedim,

I think the western styles on the Korg are better. I know eastern styles are better on the Ketron. Since we agree that sounds are much better on the Korg, would you agree that:

Western styles= Korg
Eastern/Arabic= Ketron

No, since Ketron doesnt even have Eastern styles refering to Oriental,
there is the Vega, which is based on XD9 but has nothing to do with
Ketron, its not even made by them. Ketron still rules the Latin, African
and the European music stage...especially with its Audio Loops, not only
on Audya but also on arrangers waaaayyyy before Korg ever heard of it.

I play live with both a SD1 and a PA2XPRO.
I´ve owned my SD1 since it came on the market. And I love it.
In my opinion the PA2XPRO drums (Same as PA800) is more live and
not as HIFI-like as SD1. Compared the SD1 is not as punchy and direct.
I always EQ the drums and save them in my performance together with
selected style settings.

That's like asking how do you make the sounds worse so they sound like a Ketron.
Better or worse is only a matter of opinion when you get to the stage we are at now when comparing two good makes of keyboards.

If you like the Ketron Drum more, then sample them.

Hi Rob,

the Reverb offset to +14? That much reverb will get you lost in space???
and are you sure about those EQ settings? +6dB 3,7KHz? that doesn't sound good to me??? and high gain +12dB (that's a lot!)

I missunderstood or i dont understand Robs numbers too. I will usually
recomend the level offset not more then 5-6 and my EQ is the way it is
just Low+3 and High+4, NO Mid.

Hi Antoine. I've used Rob's settings exactly and my pa2x sounds Mint using Yamaha yst ms50 Speaker set. I guess it all comes down to your speaker set or a quality set of Headphones - AND your own hearing of course.

I just tried Robs settings on my Pa800 and really like it. I am new to the Pa800 and not a tech so I don't know a lot about the settings used to really bring out the best in this keyboard. I would be interested to know what settings any of you have found that you like to use !!

Low 0, Mid +6 @ 2.5k, High +8 makes the Board sound really live!

Hi Graham,

I am going to try your settings but just need to know what your Reverb Offset Parameter is set at under Global-General Controls-Basic. On Robs the master EQ is enabled and offset is +14 Is yours the same or different ??

I have always left my reverb at the default setting of 0. However, I respect Rob's knowledge of this keyboard and plan to try out different levels, especially in the locations that I play other than home.

I would be interested in your own thoughts too.

guys...why dont you use your individual output?
send the drum and percusion track to OUt2,bass track to out1..and the rest still out L/R.. and use external mixer like ALESIS multimix 6fx..its become powerfull
