I have never played Electribes. Want to get one second hand. I will have a few hours to test it, but wanted to ask:
are there any common deffects in electribes which could be unnoticed at first sight by inexperienced user?

- knob jitter: check all the knobs, especially the commonly used ones, like the main pattern selector, and make sure the displayed values are smooth.
- dead/dying groovetubes: listen to the main outs with everything turned down to zero while a pattern is playing. If the tubes are on their way out, you'll hear some audio leak through. If they're good you won't. Then turn up the volume and tube gain to 9 o'clock. If they sound too distorted, they could be on their way out. Not a big deal, as they can be replaced, but maybe a bargaining chip
- make sure the 3/4 outs work
- check the ribbon controller/arp to make sure it works

I have the same question for the esx, I will be paying $350 and it comes with a 64 MB smart media card, and a usb to smart Media card adaptor cable. It also comes with the original tubes, and some that were put on supposedly that sound better. Is this a good price? Supposedly mint, with no scratches, the box, power cord, and manual.
