MR1 requirements

Post by salaxi54 »

Hello and a happy new year to all!
I was considering buying the MR1 recorder, but am a bit confused with the requirements. I have a PowerMac G4 @733Mhz (the Digital Audio model) with 1.5 GB RAM and OS 9.2.2 I don't plan on using the AudioGate software provided, but generally do recordings now and then. Does that still mean that i must meet the minimum requirements written in the description?
(OS X 10.3.9 and 800 Mhz CPU) or is that required for the AudioGate program only? Anyone have any experience under Mac OS 9 with it?
Thanks in advance.

Hello:

AudioGate won't run under OS 9, so that means you'll never be able to convert your DSD recordings to other formats to use them, nor can you even play them on your computer - but you willb e able to back them up there. You'll only be able to play them on your MR-1.

Is that what you really want to do?

Regards,

Jerry

Thanks for the reply Jerry,
I guess not.. I haven't read everything involved with the MR-1 it seems.
That means that either i'll have to upgrade my system, or look for a similar device. My understanding now is that if you can't run AudioGate it's a bit useless. I'm pretty satisfied with MacOS 9, a solid platform, no hiccups, everything working just fine but i suppose i'll have to ride the upgrade train sooner or later!
Thanks once again.

MR-1 or PCM D50 ?

Post by drumfish »

hi guys,
i'm about to get a portable recorder rm1 or a sony .. about the rm1 i've been told that the included electret stereo mic is poor quality, the battery charge don't last over 2 hours ...
does it worth it with a good external mic ? and wich one ?
is the sound recorded close to this "1 bit dsd" recording quality ?

I have a Korg MR-1 recorder. It is a good recorder. It has one peculiar issue, that is, the battery life. After one year of use, I am recording at less than two hours on one eight-hour charge of the internal battery. The external battery pack (has four AA batteries) allows you to go longer. I would not go beyond three hours of use with a combination of the external battery pack and a full charge on the internal battery. After about three hours, the device attempts to shut down and it fails to complete shutdown when attached to the external battery pack. Any recording being made when the device fails like this is lost. When I attempted to insert fresh replacement batteries into the external battery pack and continue recording, the PC board was damaged. PC board replacement, under warranty, cost me $85. Out of warranty, it would have cost me $189. Yesterday, the Korg MR-1 recorder was $299 at the online source where I originally purchased it.

When did MR-1 go to 20GB?

Post by Barry Fitzgerald »

I am looking to buy a used MR-1 but I think I read that the originals were only 10GB. What serial number did they switch to 20GB? Alternatively, what year?
thx

Barry
