OS 2.01 Files Not found when trying to load - help!

Post by paulc »

I am trying to load the OS 2.01 updates on my PA800. I have copied them on to a USB stick and followed the instructions, ie. insert stick, hold Intro1 button down and power up. When I select USB-F the screen is blank as though there is nothing on the USB stick. The files are definitely there - I have loaded them onto a 2nd stick and its still the same. I've tried the display calibration as well. If I power up the PA800 normally and go to MEDIA and select USB-F then they are there! Why can't it find them for the system update? Help appreciated Paul.

Did you unpacked them? There should be two files:
******.pkg is OS and it's loaded with intro 1 procedure
******.bkp are musical resources and they are loaded with media full resource restore.

Please name the files on the USB here, with total extension.

[name].[extension]

So before and after the point. We can then see if the files are correct and unpacked.

If that is not the problem, the USB could be a problem. Did the USB work before on the Korg ?

Thanks to Nikola & Macboy for your replies.
The software was saved direct to the USB from the Korgpa website so is a folder which contains the .PKG file and adobe text files plus another folder which contains the .BKP file and adobe text files.. In the case of the operating system the file name is: Pa800_os_v201.pkg. Basically I am following Korgs loading instructions from the website but when I get to part 6 of 'Loading a .PKG file' the files are not there. The USB stick has the files on as when I select Media and USB-F (ie as if loading a .BKP file)
the .PKG file can be seen there. I bought a 2nd USB stick but it was no different. I've not tried to load a system update before but do use the USB stick to load midi files on and it works fine. What do you mean by unpacking them? do you mean deleting the text files or only have the .PKG operating system file on the USB (not the .BKP musical resources file) thanks Paul

Hi Paul,

I believe what Nikola meant was that did you unzip the files after the download? They are zipped folders and you need to unzip them before making use of them. You need to do this on a PC before execution.

It can be a little confusing because windows has a built in .ZIP file browser so it looks like any other folder when you view it just after downloading it.

What you need to do is:

Copy the .ZIp file(s) to your PC desktop

Delete any .ZIp folders from your USB stick

Double click to open the .ZIP folder window on your PC desktop.

Drag and drop all the contents onto a clear area of the desktop.

Then select all the contents and drag and drop them onto your USB stick.

Do the above for both the OS download and for the Musical Resources download.

Follow the remaining instructions in the two .PDF documents.

Regards,
Rob

Thanks to umanid & Rob for replies. I didn't appreciate that the files had to be 'unzipped' or 'unpacked' the Korg instructions are very basic and dont tell you to do this, guess they presume everyone is a computer buff. Anyway I have followed Rob's instructions and am pleased to say that the files appeared on the PA800 display and I have successfully loaded
V 2.01 OS & Resources. I will try out the new stuff now, I've only had the PA800 a few weeks which I bought secondhand & it had a much earlier OS on (v1.01 I think) from Nov 2006. Special thanks to Rob. All the best Paul.

Yes they do. People easily do things without reading and then complaining afterwards to fast. It's just our new society :)
