nano pad set up

Post by iBlakex »

hi i just purchased a korg nano pad
and im a beginner in music production and all of this
i have no experience with it

i tried to set it up by downloading ez drummer but there were always files missing during download and it wouldnt work

i also hooked it up to abelton live trial but it would crash a lot

i downloaded the drivers

i was wondering what i can do to function the nano pad
and also how do i map the pads

which software should i use (preferrably free software)
and how can i map songs that are already created

a GREAT thank you to those who answer and for helping. :)

I'm new to using a pad like this. Until now I've used an M-Audio Keystation, which is just a midi keyboard. I just accepted what was assigned to where with the keyboard. For the Nano I want to customize it.

I've bought the nanopad exclusively for drum use. I want to be able to map certain drums to certain pads and scenes. I use Logic 8 and EZdrummer on a mac.

For instance:
on Scene 1 a bunch of toms, bass drum, and snare
on scene 2 all the cymbals, hats etc...
on scene 3 ....and so on...

I found out how to do this, in case anyone else needs to know.

You have to use Korg Kontrol Editor and download the usb-midi driver (even if you use a mac). These are available from Korg's website.

I first wrote all the mapping assignments from EZ drummer in a textedit file.
i noted where cymbals were, kicks etc. For instance: kick-C2

After noting what drum is assigned to what keyboard note (there is a pdf file that shows the layout in your EZdrummer folder (same for most other plugins I assume), I just went ahead an mapped by clicking on the corresponding pad in the editor and changing the note down below.

Make sure you save your set and name it to whatever you want. Stay organized.

For some reason when I was mapping, my notes were off by one octave, exactly! It really confused me and I thought the editor wasn't working. Everything had to be entered into the editor +1 octave.

Save/write your scene data. Test your pads and you should be good to go.

You can also do this in Logic, but i went the Korg route instead, seemed to be easy enough.

Hey,

I have exactly the same problem, my notes were also off by + one octave after mapping it in the nano kontrol editor!! I tried it with 2 different computers, once with pro-tools and once with Cubase 3 SX. Every time the same problem. Maybe some driver issues or a bug in the kontrol editor? Anybody else got this problem?

Cheers,

I.

just change them an octave down. its not a fault of the software - there are just different naming conventions for note names.
