Buy it, or not..?
Question is..
I regularily gig with a N364, Trinity + MOSS and a TR.
I was thinking of swapping the TR for a M50, I'd just like to know if there is a point to doing so..
Yeah, I know M50 goes by EDS synthesis, but I'm thinking (mostly smiling to the MOSS and Trinity by default) wether the swap will be a milestone sound-wise for this rig, or I can happily keep on using the trio, since I can already handle most of the sounds M50 will offer.
Mainly thinking along the organ, pad and strings section. Not much into electro stuff.
Any thoughts on that?

The answer is YES... swap!Tiayviel wrote:Question is..

I have both, & whilst the TR is a superb keyboard, if you were to put the TR next to the M50, you'd be in no doubt as to which one to choose.

If you can afford to make the change, I say go for it. I also like the TR and had one for 2 years but I don't think I could live without my M50 after having it for the past 2 months.

In a band - follow linky in sig for music type..
Yeah, I mean if I had only a TR I would swap it blindfolded.
But having a MOSSed Trinity I dunno if that's oh-so-really-needed.

Agreed, NEVER get rid of the Trinity. If you do, offer it to one of us at a great price!kimu wrote:swap the TR for the M50 but keep the trinity!

I wouldnt go for M50 if i had TR...its not worth the change, at least TR has
the Sampler, if something is missing you can sample and load but on the
M50 if you need a sound...just look at it, nothing else. The difference is
not THAT miles ahead, is rather inches...lets be realistic...as for the Trinity,
Bro, if someone offered you M3 for that dont change it or ask them for another
600$ on top of the M3.

I also say dump the TR. The M50 is much better. If you don't need the sampler (and I *NEVER* use the sampler. The M50 has 5 insert effects. The TR doesn't. The M50 has a MUCH better sample set (and can use M3 progs and combis).
I have an M3 and a Triton Pro and I'll be picking up an M50 for practice and smaller gigs. My decision to get the M50 was the extra light weight, I don't NEED the sampler, and all the progs and combis I use on my M3 will work on the M50.
You won't regret it...

Current Korg Gear: KRONOS 88 (4GB), M50-73 (PS mod), RADIAS-73, Electribe MX, Triton Pro (MOSS, SCSI, CF, 64MB RAM), SQ-64, DVP-1, MEX-8000, MR-1, KAOSSilator, nanoKey, nanoKontrol, 3x nanoPad 2, 3x DS1H, 7x PS1, FC7 (yes Korg, NOT Yamaha).
One last question - does the M50 contain the same multisamples as M3? Does it ... sound the same? I played a M3 and was speechless, however I never found a M50 to try it out live.
Are all prog/combis available online for the M3 working with the M50, including the official KORG 512 program pack and Vintage Keys etc.?

I'm sorry I can't answer your question fully - I'm no expert & I'm still learning, although I've tested many keyboards/manufacturers in recent times.
The M50 doesn't have as much polyphony as the M3, but the sounds/voices, whatever you want to call them, are exceptional.

M50 has the same EDS engine and same ROM of M3, futher also IFX/TFX/MFX (and related presets) are the same and so the drum track.Tiayviel wrote:One last question - does the M50 contain the same multisamples as M3? the only thing missing is Karma, substituted by dual arp.
i have both and even i never done a serious A/B tests, it sounds equal to me, some were saying in other post that M50 has cheapest A/D converter with respect to M3 (that could be true) and that in serious listening environment some difference could be heard.

Yes Kimu, the AD/DA make very big difference but on a serious PA system or
studio enviroment, i hear the difference everyday but taken live on a PA system
there cant be difference, they will both have noise and kids and women screaming
around you...noone will notice...LOL.

I *HAD* an M50 and currently *HAVE* an M3. They absolutely used cheaper DA converters on the M50. But as stated above, through a live PA I doubt anyone will notice. I only noticed because I compared the two with good headphones. I wish I'd have kept the M50 and sent the M3 back. The M50 really is a better choice for a live rig (if you don't depend on samples - and I do not).
But the multisamples are the same so any prog or combi you like for the M3 will work on the M50 (minus Karma of course).

Last question.. can I record audio via the USB?
I'm not too hot on the VST topic, but a friend of mine using a guitar multi-effect processor recorded via USB (so the quality was durrr great).
I'd like to know if the M50 is capable of such a thing, and will spare me buying a audio interface.

I think M50 cannot do ANYTHING that has to do with Audio.
