Use Sequencer buttons to control computer sequencer?

I would like to use the Triton Studio's panel buttons (Start/Stop, Locate, Pause, etc) for sequencer control to control a PC-based sequencer program.

I can easily position a monitor behind the Triton, but it is more difficult to position a computer keyboard in a place that is near enough to reach conveniently, but not in the way. For many functions, the sequencer buttons would be enough.

However, in Combi or Program mode, I cannot get those buttons to send any commands. Is there any trick to enabling the sequencer control buttons to send out the proper MIDI commands while in Combi or Program mode?
