KorgPa-Arranger Software

Post by Babosh »

Hi all, this is my first post here therefore I want introduce myself first.
My user name is Babosh (as you can see), I think real name is not that important.

I am not a musician but I like music, I just bought a Yamaha PSR-A300 to learn.

My first experience with PA was about 4 years ago when I joined the (Midi East Music Forum) http://www.abdallahsafar.com/Forum/ and started developing the Pa1XConverter to preview and convert the huge PCM files posted by users ( http://sites.google.com/site/baaboosh/pa1xconverter )

A while ago I started developing the (KorgPa-Arranger) to more than just previewing the PCM files, here is the idea:

Dear all Korg PA users,

I have just started a new project; I am going to develop a Korg PA Arranger Software.

The Idea is not that new, I have already discussed the subject before in the forum (especially with George Nour - see: http://www.abdallahsafar.com/Forum/topi ... C_ID=18810)

What I want to achieve is to :
1- First Step: is to be able to load the .SET directory and browse the contents of each part (PCM, STY, PCG, PRF,… etc) in the same way the Pa1XConverter read the PCM files.
2- Second Step: Rename Samples (in PCM), Styles (in STY) .. etc
3- Third Step: Export parts of the files, which means: if the user likes a style he will be able to export it and then import it to his SET

The next steps 4,5,.. are still not that clear for me (your ideas are welcome), but I don’t promise that everything will be perfect

The only problem I have is that I have no PA keyboard, therefore I need some support from you. Are there any volunteers ?

The current status,

I can read PCM, STY, PCG, PRF and KMP

- I can rename samples in PCM, Styles in STY, programs in PCG and performances in PRF
- I can export samples from a PCM and import them to another PCM in another SET
- I can Expot/Import Styles, Programs and Performances

My only problem now is what I call the F*****G OC31

I was searching the net to find out what this thing is, and read some posts in the forum
http://www.korgforums.com/forum/phpBB2/ ... hp?t=41693
http://www.korgforums.com/forum/phpBB2/ ... hp?t=40484
and decided to join the forum

I appreciate any help to solve this problem

Regards to all,
Babosh

Great Rob,

First I want to test the sample import/export from/to a PCM, we can do it in 2 ways:

1- I send you a PCM file that I modified with the software and you try to import sample from this pcm to see if the Pa2xPro can load that PCM properly
2- We agree on a set, then I will modify the set and send you the modified files then you try to load the set and check if the changes are ok

What do you think ?

Hi Baboosh,
I have been following your posts on the mideast forum and
I believe that teaming up with ROB and other KORG experts on this forum will help you achieve your goal which we all will enjoy....and also as usuall with NEDIM always finding faults, will greatly help improve the "Arranger software" :D 8)

Hello Baboosh!

I am not a musician, but more about software developer (now, well, manager). And i would like to support your initiative by giving you a tool to develop the software.

If you in EMEA region (Europe, Middle-East and Africa) i can send you full box of Visual Studio 2008 Team Suite + MSDN Universal (one full year of subscription) as a support for your development.

If you are from other regions then i can send you a code to activate MSDN subscription as a download only option.

Hope that this tool can make your job easier.

Hi folks,

Sorry for the delayed answer, but I am very busy these days.

Let me start from the top:

Leka, Thanks a lot for your offer, can you do what I have subjected to Rob to test the PCM export/import functionality?

Paul, thanks for your words and encouragement

Mrniceneasy, thanks for your comment, but let me explain something that I haven’t in the first mail.
I am not a musician but I like music alooooooooot; I wish I could play some instrument, but the software will not for free. I was thinking to charge some bugs (not sure yet 20$-50$) and will use the money to create my own website and forum, If I get some enough money I will buy a Pa800 or Pa2x to test my ideas and do more improvements and test for the software my self which I think will help me improve the software faster.

Asena, thanks for your reply. As I said before, I have no Korg machine (it is very expensive for me), what I always need is someone to help me testing my files.

PTO, that’s a very cool and generous offer, but what is the second option:
i can send you a code to activate MSDN subscription as a download only option

Thanks for all of supporting me, and hope to achieve my goal to have a nice Pa Software.

Regards,
Babosh

Hi Babosh,
I dont mind paying for the difficult task that you are undertaking.
This will only make our lives alot easier with the customised software you will be making.

Cheers

Hello Babosh:

I am not a software programmer but just out of curiosity what is F*****G OC31?

As per "The current status" statement, you are able to re-name samples in PCM, Styles in STY, Programs in PCG and Performances in PRF, can export samples from PCM and import them to another PCM in another SET and last can Export/Import Styles,Programs and Performances. But why you have to achieve these steps as per your "What I want to acheive is to" statement, if you already capable of doing these steps. I am lost....

Best regards,

Fahim,

Hi Babosh. I would be willing to pay a reasonable amount for quality software if it did the job correctly as stated.

For the other part's of your wish you can get a fully editable website for FREE here:

Free Forum Site here:

regards and good luck :D

Hi again,

Lika, I have a nice task for you. I will write you a pm

Paul, I hope that I can make a software that all PA users will like

Assyrianpianist, I don’t know about what mike did !!
By the way, your youtube videos are very nice

sehasafade12, I think, not sure yet, that the OC31 is as type of encryption/compression that korg uses.
Regarding current status and what I want to achieve, I think you are confused because of the first post (the red part): it is the post from the Midi East Music Forum I wrote it few months ago
Even if I can export/import samples or other stuff, this not the final sate because:
When you export an instrument (from PCG), it doesn’t export the corresponding samples (from PCM) (and this is what I try to achieve)
The same for PRFs, exporting a performance should also export its instruments and the corresponding samples, the same for style
Therefore I draw the following diagram to understand the structure of korg set (I am not sure if it is complete or correct), and will be very happy If you can correct it for me

here:

Mrniceneasy, thanks a lot for your post and suggestions.
But you know what, I don’t like the free forums and websites, because they are full of ads and pop ups and you don’t have the control on your site.
For the time being I am happy to have google site (but still has many limitations)

Reagrds for all
