I have a timing issue with midifile playback on my keyboard.
When I play back a midifile the tracks seem to drift, the drum track will get "off". Is there something wrong with the player or maybe the midifile has something wrong, such as embedded commands. The files sound o.k. on another keyboard (Tyros2), however.
Thanks

Did you save it with GM sounds? is it playing back the proper drum kit?gskip wrote:I have a timing issue with midifile playback on my keyboard.

No, I did nothing to it. I played it from a USB flash drive. Perhaps I should have saved it to the hard drive first and then tried it. I'm a newbie and just assumed it should play that way with no changes.

A couple of thoughts. First, you should copy it off the smart disk to the HD to really try it, although it should play just fine. The quality of the midi file is of course very important. The PA2 will of course, play the General Midi sound or sample according to the midi code assigned to each track, which could be funky, again depending on how the file was produced. Also, watch if you have transposed the keyboard to save or play the midi file in another key, and then forget to reset the transpose on the board when you try to play back the saved midi file. It really does not like to do that. I don't know why, ask Rob those kinds of technical questions. Finally, always reassign tracks to the great PA2 samples: kits, DNC and RX sounds are the best out there these days. You will learn all of the nuances of these samples and what you can do with them with an expression pedal, bend bar and assignable buttons and switches, etc. Finally, if a sound or sample is being played back at too low an octave, it will also sound a lot like you describe.
Have fun with this great board

Hi gskip. It all depends whether your midi is pc sequenced or played live and recorded on a keyboard sequencer. If recorded on a pc then it is most likely to be a GM file OR possibly XG Yamaha format [xg WORKS] but most likely GM. If recorded on a Roland then it will be in GS format. A yamaha keyboard as GM/XG or modern Yamaha Board's [Tyros1 onwards] with 'Live' and 'Mega' voices within. These would HAVE to be exchanged with GM voices to play correctly on the Korg..

The best format to play in the Korg is the GM Soundset as it's universal. You can do as suggested and exchange the GM for Korg onboard sounds but the midi would be best altered on a pc to GM before importing to your Korg.
