How to check OS version on KP3?

Post by knobfun »

So can you check the version on the unit, or do you do it through the software editor...?

an easy way of checking is to goto any Loop effect and touch the screen.... if the LEDs light up everything to the Left of your finger it is OS 2.0, but if the LEDs only show the point of contact, you have the first OS

hope this was helpful

When you say point of contact - do you mean, the point at your finger is not lit, but the square above, right, below and left are lit?

Also, do you mean only when you put your finger on one spot, or when you move your finger?

Yes... what you just described is the first operating system, but only on the 'loop' effects.... Most every other effect also has what you described, a plus sign where your finger touches.

Hey is there another way to know?? I can't really even get my KP3 to work right now.

To be honest, I just bought my kp3 and I don't have an sd card so I cut my own sample from a song just to experiment. Then I imported the sample into the KP3 Editor and highlighted bank A in the Editor. Then, I hit the TRANSMIT button in the Editor and I thought it will transmit the sample into the KP3 but I get this msg that says : This operation will overwrite the Sample Data on your Kp3. Do you want to continue?

I am really confused bc then I read online a bunch of things about updating the Kp3 OS but I can't tell which one I have in the first place. Also, the Kp3 Editor is version 1. How would I know if I have the latest OS? I can't even get a loop sample into the kp3 . I do plan on getting an sd card but I should be able to transmit loops anyway!

Please help if you can, even if you wish to skype I would love that. Thanks a lot.

I have never used mine without the SD card so I think you can only copy the audio to one of the sample banks only. And it will overwrite anything if it is there. I don't usually connect to the editor. I normally take my SD card out and put it into my computer to move data around. I use the editor to modify/convert audio files and them save them back on the SD card.

About knowing the OS version on the KP3... I found the advice about touching the screen wasn't completely accurate. I have the newest OS, but touching the screen on the Loop programs didn't always light up the screen the way they say. I found that the mode had to be correct.

From the update manual:
Within programs LoP.1 to LP.13 and SY.10, a new “Loop2” feature has been added, to
provide a variance in rhythmic retriggering of samples. .
1. Hold down the SHIFT button and press the PROGRAM MEMORY 6 (PAD LED)
button.
2. Select “LooP” (loop type selection) with the PROGRAM/BPM knob.
3. Press the PROGRAM/BPM knob. Turn the PROGRAM/BPM knob and select
“tYP.1” or “tYP.2”.
“tYP.1” (Type 1): When the Looper hits a half-beat, the loop starts from the begin-
ning of the phrase of the half loop regardless of the beat.
“tYP.2” (Type 2): When the Looper hits a half-beat, the loop of the half-size phrase
starts at the point that matches the current beat.
4. To save the setting, press the WRITE button. When you don’t want to save the
setting, press the SHIFT button.
Now I suspect if you can't do what is written above on your KP3, then you don't have the latest OS.

The that I know to be sure is to download the update program from Korg and run it. It will tell you what OS you have.

Hey thanks for replying,

I got it figured out with the help of djfluorescent - my drivers that came with the kp3 weren't working.

As for the OS , I guess mine needs updating because I can't do what you described there, so thanks a lot :)
