Program Changes

Post by elgriffo »

In the video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=23OR-m4P ... re=related we can see the mighty power Jordan Rudess...

But my question is if in the Korg M3 you can change programs or combis like Jordan does in the video at 8:35.

I have a music project and i use a lot of sound and split keybords in one song and i'm planning to buy the M3, but i don't whant to have the surprise that when I do that have a delay that interrupted the song.

thenx and sorry about my poor english

This issue have been vastly discussed in other forums, and here as well. Just make a search or look into the M50 forum.

BTW, where are you from El Griffo?

Hi!!

If I'm not wrong, he's using a Boss FS5; I've never used one and I don't know how to program it, but I'm pretty sure he's using one fo those.

Peace!!

The M3 will allow you to assign a footswitch, such as Korgs PS-1, in the Global page 2, controllers, to increment or decrement programs or combis.

Jordan talked about doing this after 8:35 in the above listed video. :)

I believe is a standard for all korg synths and workstations, but still there is a Gap where everything mutes when you hit the program up or combi up switch. You just have to carefully program the sounds and take the moment to wait for the reverb (if any) to go silent, then switch the combi/program and start playing again.

I'm fixing this issue by using an external Yamaha controller, a KX49, which is very light and small, so I don't have to switch combis or programs in the middle of a song. The Korg K49 should work the same, but just found a good deal on a brand new KX49

thanks for the responses are very helpful. But my real question is whether the change of sound or combination of 16 sounds, makes a delay to load all the new sounds

Is not a delay, but an interruption in the sound. Everything goes silent the moment you hit the switch. That's why I say that, if you wait enough for the sound to finish (release part of the sound envelope), then the change will be seamless.

Got it? I can PM you if you want the explanation in Spanish, Elgriffo.

I know it has been since the early 80's.

Hello elgriffo,

There is not a delay in loading the sounds, but there is an audible effect if any of the EFX or EFX routing changes while notes are still sounding (ie nearly always with factory Programs and Combis).

You can avoid that by assigning say 16 Programs to a Combi, you can set them up to use the same EFX routing, you can set them up to share the same keyboard or Karma channel, and you can mute and unmute each track (Program) in a set of 8 sounds with a single button press on the control surface and you can access a second group of 8 mute/unmute buttons also.

When you do this, there is no delay in turning sounds on and off and there is no noticeable EFX change (bcause the EFX don't change!).

Best regards,
Rob

Now THAT is a deal breaker. You mean I can assign the switch pedal to mute the first 8 and unmute the second group of 8 tracks? And If I hit it again it will do the opposite, like a toggle?

Any chance of explaining a bit on detail how it can be done?

Many thanks
Martin Ocando
