Cubase Crashes when Kontrol49 is connected

Post by DjRavix »

Hello everybody
I have a problem with Cubase 5 and my Kontrol49
It looks to me like a major driver bug ...
So here is what happens
I hook up my Kontrol49 by use of A USB port and turn it on
Than I startup Cubase 5
No problems working with it
but when I try closing cubase it crashes
this does not happen when I turn my kontrol49 off before closing cubase
or if i hook it up to my midi ports

I have the latest drivers for my Kontrol49 and also the latest Intel chipset drivers

So I don't know if this is a Known bug (I have also seen it happen on previous versions of cubase)

I'm just looking for a Solution

A Few little updates since I have no response on here till so far

Steinberg Noticed that it should be a driver problem
When Cubase shuts down it sends out a message to all your connected gear that is currently active
And it waits for a response from the gear
In the case of the Kontrol49 And MicroKontrol there is no such response what so ever (So this can be a mistake in the firmware as well)

On the Cubase forum A Few People responded as well
I just Quote some of theme here
hi there...i had similar problems with my microKontrol...i think this is the same driver architecture...it might help you disabling the Port-B in cubase.
since i did this (dunno why they even got 2 ports ??)
cubase shuts down normally.
I too have had similar problems with my Kontrol 49. So much so that I gave up on the USB connection. I have a midi patchbay and I've just patched the Kontrol 49 into it and all is well.
I also Tried to contact Korg as well but this seems to be a real disaster
I did not get any kind of response Of Korg Or there distributor here in the more local area
I was thinking about Getting some other Korg gear but For Now I wouldn't even bother buying there stuff Because there support Sucks like hell
At least till so far

Definitely contact your Korg Country Distributor for Tech Support.

I would suggest calling them on the phone versus email

Who did you contact? Korg USA Tech Support (you don't say where you live)?

The first step for any company's tech support is to be able to replicate your problem. Are you saying that Korg can not recreate the problem?

No I got that from Voerman who is the Korg Distributor in Holland
Look if I see that the topic on the Cubase forum has response by other people who have the same problem as I have
and that it also happens with the microKontrol

Than I'm pretty sure they must get the same problem
whatever it may be Must be a Bug in the Driver
since microKontrol & Kontrol49 use the same driver
and also since this driver has not been updated for a very long time (V1.11)

Well It seems that I am really not the only one
Yesterday I Saw that somebody had a similar Problem with Cubase Crashing when you close it

I actually told him about the problem
and he told me it was solved when he disconnected his KORG Radias

So I think that the problem is within most Korg gear that Uses the same drivers
Look I don't think it can be anything els
unless all those devices are Broke witch would be weird
Can anyone els confirm having The Same Problem With Cubase & Korg Gear Connected by usb

I have a KORG radias and use cubase. Have never had this problem.

I suspect the problem is more related to your software load. specifically drivers or chipset. Possibly even if you reloaded your computer the issue wouldn't crop up again. PCs seem to have little quirks like that. little problems that don't seem to happen to many other people.
Current Gear: Kronos 61, RADIAS-R, Volca Bass, ESX-1, microKorg, MS2000B, R3, Kaossilator Pro +, MiniKP, AX3000B, nanoKontrol, nanoPad MK II,
Other Mfgrs: Moog Sub37, Roland Boutique JX03, Novation MiniNova, Akai APC40, MOTU MIDI TimePiece 2, ART Pro VLA, Focusrite Saffire Pro 40.
Past Gear: Korg Karma, TR61, Poly800, EA-1, ER-1, ES-1, Kawai K1, Novation ReMote37SL, Boss GT-6B
Software: NI Komplete 10 Ultimate, Arturia V Collection, Ableton Live 9. Apple OSX El Capitan on 15" MacBook Pro

Hm ... I noticed one thing that may cause the Problem
Actually It's Kind of weird But all the people who reported the Problem have the Same CPU ... (Q6600)
Thats the only similarity I can find in all When Looking at the Provided Specs of peoples setups

I have the same problem with my Radias. When it's switched on, Cubase 4 and SX3 hang when I exit. When I start and exit Cubase with the Radias turned off, I have no problem, but the Radias keyboard is my main controller, so that's no solution.

I just re-installed my PC, but I still have the same issue (just installed Cubase + Radias, nothing else yet). I also have a Q (Q9550).

Peter.

So it's mostly Core 2 Quad CPU's that seem to have a Problem

Well I am currently So Pissed off
I have been waisting so much time to get support
And the eventual answer to my Problem is:
"We Don't have that Problem"

The Nice Part is that I had a List of hardware I wanted to get
and Now that all the Korg stuff is Removed from it I will save myself a Lot of money

The said thing is that I still have the damn keyboard
(inc Sealed Software package witch is probably the most expensive part in the box)

well till so far its been more than 2 months since I got any response

till so far it's the most biggest waist of money Ever
I At least I Hoped to get Support for that Kind of money :x
