Recommend A Case For The TR88
Any of you guys that are taking the TR88 out on the road to gigs. What are you using for a case and where'd you get it?
Always in need of assistance.
I use the Gator:

But check out a local Mom and Pop music store to get one. I didn't pay "THAT" price that's posted.

Obviously, it's whatever you can afford. I have 4 sets of keys and I use all Gator and have had know problems with them for six years...{{{Knocking On Wood}}}}

Thanks for posting.
That first Gator you posted is one I'd been looking at
http://www.amazon.com/Gator-GK288R-Keyb ... B37JZPVNKJ
There is also this SKB one for less
http://www.amazon.com/SKB-88-Note-Roto- ... B37JZPVNKJ
I tried to go cheap out of the gate when I bought this one from eBay
http://cgi.ebay.com/ATA-STYLE-CASE-for- ... .m20.l1116
I ordered the wheel kit for it which is a must but that darn case is not lined which really sucks. I'm going to try calling them tomorrow to see if they have any options for that but if not I'll use that case for cables etc. and look into getting one of these other ones.

I ordered one of those cases before, good luck trying to get in touch with them. I actually went to an online foam company and lined my case with it. It's been a couple of years so I'll try to remember who the foam company is.

I'd appreciate that.bsr2002 wrote:I ordered one of those cases before, good luck trying to get in touch with them. I actually went to an online foam company and lined my case with it. It's been a couple of years so I'll try to remember who the foam company is.
I thought it was a bit weird because I'd e-mailed the sales department and they wrote back.......to tell me I needed to call!
I didn't get around to calling them in time today. The case would serve my purposes just fine if I could get some lining in it and it would save me the expense of buying a second case.
BTW, thanks for the myspace add, I checked you out and I do like your stuff there!

Does Canal Rubber sound familiar? Seems to be the most relevant place I can find on an internet search.

I don't know what your budget is on a case, but I do remember if you go to the NY Case website they do have upgrades on their cases.

My Karma and TR61 fit snug with the extra foam I bought though. My Motif and Triton are in Gator Cases.

That's the problem though, I can't find the lining/padding option if there even is one. When I ordered the case I upgraded with the wheels and handle kit which was easy to do but I don't recall seeing an option to have the case lined, odd as it may seem.bsr2002 wrote:I don't know what your budget is on a case, but I do remember if you go to the NY Case website they do have upgrades on their cases.
I've got money to buy a new case but then I end up with this one sitting around perhaps doing nothing while it would work just fine if I could get some lining in it.
In retrospect it seems I should have avoided this company but they had real good feedback. It's just such an odd thing to order a keyboard case and then have it be "unfinished" with no options, instructions or advice on how to make it usable.

I got them on the phone. Apparently when I ordered the case I needed to order the ATA upgrade kit which is the foam lining. I was told that has to be done when the case is built or adding lining after the fact "distorts" the case.
It's a shame the eBay add copy doesn't make it clear that if you don't "upgrade" you're just gonna get a box! I guess I'm kinda weird in that I don't understand what would be the sense of a company selling a keyboard case without foam lining installed and I'm half a mind to just send it back to them to get rid of it.
To me it's as if I'd ordered a new car and it arrived without seats.
It's my own mistake I guess so now I'll send it back or try to find some other use for this piece of crap and buy an actual keyboard case that comes equipped to house an actual keyboard!

Thanks for the link I will be checking them out.bsr2002 wrote:Hey! A little off topic but on your MySpace the song "I'm Dying To Live" what patch if any are you getting that kick ass lead synth sound from?
Dying To Live, yes, the one song I wrote that people seemed to take to but it's been perhaps 10 years ago that I recorded that. I will see if I can pull it up from the original file and find out about the patch.
From memory I'm thinking it was recorded shortly after I'd gotten the Roland XP-30 synth and I'm thinking I used a polysynth patch from that unit to record that section.

Case for TR88
I bought the SKB case for my TR88 in March 2008. I found that the velcro retainers inside the case moved around when I set the case upright, etc. I bought some of those foam swimming noodles and cut them into various shapes and lengths to help reinforce those velcro retainers. Seems to work fine. They're cheap. My main instrument is saxophone, and I have used those types of foam to secure horns in cases, as well. You can also use the black pipe insulation from Lowe's, etc, for this purpose.
The SKB case with the TR88 in it is heavy enough - I would shudder to think what an aluminum "road case" would weigh!
