Tony Banks Organ on a CX-3
I own a Korg CX-3. I'm trying my best to get the signature sound of Tony Banks of Genesis. So far, I'm close but I'm still not satisfied. Tony began with a Hammond L-122 then switched to a T-102 with some effects. Both of these Hammonds were cleaner and mellower than the B3. Tony's sound is so much more flutey.... a very distinctive sound.
A good start has been go completely clean and a drawbar setting of 848868666.... but still...
How do I imitate a T-102 organ on the CX-3???

Hi Chris
I've never owned an organ and as I like Genesis music (youtube: jumb0j0ck) I understand your frustration. Why not try posting this on the Genesis-music website under the forum Other G Stuff - Musicians Corner?
Good luck and all the best,
jj

That was a great idea, thanks. But unfortunately they REQUIRE too much personal information as in, my address AND my phone number for even their basic membership. I've had too many problems online and have no intention of giving out my personal information. There is absolutely NO reason that they would require it, unless they intend to contact me or sell my information to a 3rd party - no logical reason what-so-ever. It's a FORUM for God's sake.
Just venting... thanks much for the suggestion though.

the short reply:
you can't really recreate those sounds with the CX3 (or most of the hammond clones anyway). Most Hammond clones are modelled after the B3 organ and as you already said yourself, the spinet organs from hammond sound quiet different from that.
I bought the Voce DMI64 MK2 (tony used it on the we cant dance tour). I only use one preset at the moment (as we dont do the older stuff, at least, not in the way they where played in the 70ies, I use tonys substitute sounds like the Prophet 10 organ) but I skipped trough the unit and found some great tones which could be more useful. They didn;t sound as hard and harsh as the B3 but had the more softer mellow tone the spinets have.
I should have a list somewhere with some drawbar settings for Genesis tunes. I used to play along with bootlegs from that era all the time… Used the organ plugin from this website:

Sounded pretty good. Especially trough my Boss SE50 (which I used for rotary or the chorus/phaser combo).

I found my notes (but sadly it was a lot less then I remembered). Everything is in 9 drawbar format. I have these settings mostly from video footage. Because of the low contrast, not all drawbars are well seen so some are just a guideline and need further tweaking.
