The end of democracy?

Post by laughing_bear »

Rant on:

In Ireland we had local and european elections last weekend. The results for the governing party were unmistakingly devastating. A clear vote against them was the result and they lost their seats left right and center.

I think it is fair to say the public made a statement. "We do not want you to govern us anymore" it could be translated, and for good reasons, because their devastating, incompetent and ignorant actions, or the lack of it, brought this country to it's knees.

For more than a decade they created a monster of public and civil servants, nurished the club of developers and builders on the race courses In Ireland where they received donations for their party.

A clever game in deed!

This country has more chiefs than Indians, and they continued creating nonsense department after nonsense department, of course, in each of them you have a extremly well payed bunch of civil servants, happily performing their paper pushing and blah blah duties.

Then when Lehmann brothers hit the wall, Emu politics, head in the sand, I do not see it, I do not hear it, I do not say anything about it. No actions were taken until it was too late. All this and more is the youngest history in Ireland until last weekend.

The results of these elections gave an unmistakingly clear message to the incumbants. ENOUGH! WE WANT CHANGE!

Now, I would think any decent and trustworthy folk with a rest of respect and honor in his blood would not ignore this message and act accordingly. But not so with these folks.

For years now their politics of bribery has successfully maintained them in their seats. The independents and the greens were cohersed with deals to maintain a constant majority when it came to votes in the Dail. Everyone in Ireland knew that.

Now, these political parasites got their message from the electorate as well, the greens have lost nearly all their mandates, in every county. They were slaughtered!

But.....

They will still "govern us", what a joke, together with the party that got the same message.... until 2012, when the next major elections are called.

How can this be?

Well, subconsequently the opposition parties called for a vote of no confidence, hence asking for re elections.

Guess what, the same bribery and behind closed doors tactics were performed as usually in the past decade here in Ireland, and unsurprisingly, the vote turned out to be 85 NO and 79 votes YES.

What does that mean?

It means that a government that was told in local elections to hit the road, stays in power by 6 out of 164 votes.

The end of democracy and the beginning of a totalitarian burocracy? It certainly appears this way, and not only in Ireland but throughout Europe.

The bottom line is, here in the Republic if Ireland, we are governed by a mix of politicians that are not wanted anymore, and they abused a flawed democratic system to stay in power by 3.65% advantage. This 3.65% was siginifcantly enabled by they very greens that were voted out of every local council, they are literally non existant anymore.

I have no respect left for authorities that display nothing but utter ignorance towards the will of the people, they have no honor left in their thin blood that is poisoned by greed.

Political turf wars and power games, the people ignored, the country ruined.

What's next?

Oh well... awaiting winter 2009, and the next round of increasing taxes of course.

<shaking head in disbelief!>

Hi Bear.

When we get to the point where we heavily and continuously take the piss out of politicians on the national radio stations at every opportunity, I think it's safe to say we never needed any vote to find out what we think of them. You can just buy the Gift Grub CD's sold nation wide.

Nothing will ever change in this country because people live in fear of the government when it should be the other way around.

Regards.

Freedom is only an illusion.

craig, I just got 2 points.
They moved a 40mile an hour sign by almost a mile and put it in a ditch where nobody could see it. Then they parked the Van with the camera and managed to get a few thousand cars in one day. 3 Week later you get the ticket and because of the numbers hit the local radio station covered the topic.

It's a joke, hidden signs and hidden vans followed by a ticket 3 weeks later is not a Speed Check Point. It's a money making racket and a scam.

It wasn't until the local radio station covered this did they go out can cut back the ditch where they put it so people could see the sign. Still have to pay the fine and 2 points.

With the exception of those with state-controlled media, e.g. China, aren't countries around the world experiencing the same sort of thing?
