Got a Korg Radias..Sell my MS2000r or not ??

Post by Predator »

Ok, I've bought the Radias (more poly), but still have the MS2000r
I was planning to sell the MS2000r, it's not even connected now because the Radias took it's place ;)

I am just wondering if there is a big difference between the to machines, some people say the MS2000r sounds more analog ?!?

And would it be possible to send my old MS2000r patches direct to my Radias and would they sound the same ?!?

You can convert the patches roughly, using software or by hand (copying every parameter), but it wouldn't sound exactly the same because the parameter ranges are different. most of the stuff on the MS2000 in terms of functionality is there, plus more, so there shouldn't be anything you can't do, but it still won't sound identical because the radias sounds inherently different.

Not saying you can't get very close - but it requires a bit of programming work. for example using the drive (distortion on MS2000 is on/off whereas on the radias it is variable), adjusting effect parameters etc.
I tend to find it makes it sound a bit better with a really subtle decimator effect too, because the MS2000 is more gritty.

I've expressed my personal opinion a lot here - you can do more with the radias than the MS2000. It may not go to EXACTLY the same places but it gets pretty close, but it requires a lot more work. that seems to be why a lot of people put it down - its not that it can't do it, its just that there's so much depth, it goes other places too, whereas if you just want an analog sound, its easier to program it straight on the MS2000 because you're halfway there already because it sounds inherently analog straight out of the box.

I'd keep it. The radias is great for really expressive, evolving, crazy pads and effect sounds (not to mention actual audio effects), and some keyboards too (makes great EP and organs, mellotrons and thick strings), The drums are also top notch and quite frankly, very under-used and not many people even mention them when reviewing the radias. The MS2000 is a great lead and bass machine, but its limited polyphony and patching (only four virtual patches, not able to modulate other patch amounts and envelopes, etc) leaves it as a more basic synth.
But as I say their differences in initial sound character makes them quite complentary - I'm trying to get my microKorg back, after I lent it to someone when I got my radias!

What about the MS2000 factory patches for Radias from Korg? Do they sound close enough to the MS2000 to get the job done?

Thnx for your feedback!

Thing is, I've alot of syths, nord rack, jp8080, virus ti ms2000r and radias and my first thing was to sell the ms2000 like I said before, cause I thought it would sound simular to the Radias and I just want to have more diverse synths instead of al simular sounding. I guess I just have to reconnect the MS2000r and hear for myself if I could lose it or keep it :) Anyway, thanks for the advice!

Btw. is there converting software to convert patches from MS2000r to the Radias?

The original post is gone in the forum shakeup, but I've found reference and information on it here:
http://www.korgforums.com/forum/phpBB2/ ... 00+convert

took about 2 minutes with the search function. ;)
