Help

Post by PA500 User »

Hi,
I am very new to the Korg (less than a week) and am having trouble trying to find how to change the STS voices. After picking a style, I want to be able to change the STS voices to my choices instead of Korgs.
I find the manuel difficult to understand. I have had Yamaha and Roland which have decent manuals but the Korg is completely different in their approach. Any help would be appreciated. I am a young 80 years old so
it takes longer for my ole brain to absorb info. now.
Thanks in advance to any help you can supply. Lloyd

Lloyd,
(I have a PA2XPRO so forgive me if something I refer to is not same as PA500...I think most of this is the same)

I know it's only been a short while on the PA...but spend some time on the SONGBOOK.

What you want to do may well be handled by songbook for you better than anything else.
The songbook is a VERY powerul function...way more than any Yamaha etc you had before. Literally everything you want to save/modify to be able to do a song or songs with style, or MIDI is saved for you.

Assuming it is the same as PA2XPRO....the songbook entry even allows its own set of STS's for the style that entry uses. And you could have lots of different songs you play (and make a songbook entry for) and each one could use the same style and have different STS's.

Hang in there...the PA is different than Yamaha ( I had a T2) BUT it is much more flexible and once you learn it you will lke it IMHO.

Thanks for reply to my dilemma. I will study the songbook functions and see if I can understand it.
It certainly is different from the Yamaha Tyros 2.
I believe time and study will begin to reveal the functions of the PA500.
Thanks again for answering my inquiry. Sincerely, Lloyd Erickson

Hello Lloyd,

Welcome to the world of Korg! I too am a new member of the Korg Pa family having just purchased a Pa588, the 88 note weighted keyboard version of the Pa500. I came from another brand that I was extremely familiar with so I have been busy learning a new system as well.

Like Lee said above, the Songbook function is well worth looking in to. But to answer your question directly;
After picking a style, I want to be able to change the STS voices to my choices instead of Korgs.
To replace an existing STS within a style with your choice of sound(s):
From Style Play Mode-
  1. Pick a Style
  2. Select the 'STS Name' tab in the bottom of the display
  3. Choose one of the 4 STS's
  4. Verify that UP1 (Upper 1) is highlighted in the upper right of the display
  5. Make sure tat the Sound LED is illuminated below the Performance/Sound buttons on the right side of the control panel
  6. Choose a Sound Group type and select a sound of your choice NOTE: You should now hear this sound when playing the keyboard to the right of the split
  7. Touch the Down Arrow button it the upper right of the display
  8. Select 'Write Single Touch Setting' from the drop down menu
  9. Touch the 'T' (text button) toward the top of the window and name the new STS using the alpha keyboard that appears in the display. NOTE: Press the Clear button first to erase the existing name
  10. Press the 'OK'' button in the lower right of the display
You have now replaced the original STS with your own.

I hope that makes sense. If not I am happy to clarify. Believe me it is very easy and quick to accomplish once you do it a few times. It took far longer to write this than it will to change all 4 STS's. :)

Best regards,

Dave
