What cable will I need to buy to connect my synth to a basic speaker system? I got a korg today but can't really use it. Thanks.

what kind of speaker system do you have? generally, the most common way to amplify the microkorg is by using a 1/4" cable to some kind of PA system or keyboard amp.

you can also connect to any normal 1/4in jack headphones or other stereo system such as computer speakers or home cinema system, studio monitors etc. which usually have red and white (left and right) RCA jacks and usually come with a kind of splitter cable that has a stereo 3.5mm jack on the end, then you can get a 3.5 to 1/4in (stereo-TRS!! not mono-TS) adaptor and plug into the headphones socket.

you can also use that adaptor to connect mp3-player style earbuds and headphones that have a 3.5mm jack.
