I'd suggest waiting a month to see about this new sampler that has been announced to see if it's really intended to be a new line that will replace the ESX. I don't think it will, but the details are too sketchy at the moment.

It's worth buying now if you get a used one at the right price, which may be difficult to do in the Eurozone. Used gear seems to be less plentiful and higher priced, while new gear is very expensive vs. USA. Even if Korg comes out with a newer model, the ESX still is a good match with the EMX. That's why so many people buy the older Electribes, some good gear is timeless so long as you can still use it.

HI

I would pay ~ Euro 450,- (this is for a new one and the german tax 'Mehrwertsteuer' is already deducted)
Does that sound good??

By the way: xmlguy you wrote some german in an earlier post - you're not german aren't you??

I live in Norway, and got my ESX for 375 USD shipped, it was used, but has worked flawlessly for four years now. eBay is your friend :)and the EMX/ESX has excellent resale value, I could easily sell mine for the same amount I got it for, or even more...

as for the new machine, I wouldn't wait for that.. speculations and hopes for a new electribe has been going on for YEARS with nothing new coming out. worst case scenario is that they DO make something new that suits your needs better, and if that happens, just sell your electribe for the same amount you paid for it. their price is not going to drop even if korg comes up with something better (because something new will probably be more expensive)

Very good idea!
But: what about the different voltage? Or do you have the same voltage in Norway?

I have seen the ESX for the low $300 range on a frequent basis here in the USA. Because the ESX and EMX have vacuum tubes, their power requirements are a bit unusual at 9V _AC_, not DC. You can probably find a way to convert your local AC power to 9V with a transformer and a plug that fits the ESX.

No, I'm not German, but I know basic travellers German and I've been to Germany, Austria, and Switzerland, of the german-speaking countries. I visited the cities of Munich, Rotenburg ob der Tauber, Berlin, and Cologne. I've seen nearly all of King Ludwig's palaces around Munich , the Hofbräuhaus, and the Museum of Technology/Industry. I've also been to a lot of sites related to Mozart. He stayed and drank at Hofbräuhaus. I've been to his birthplace in Salzburg and the Opera/Music Halls in Vienna and Prague.

I've studied French for a summer in Paris at the Sorbonne. My foreign language speaking skills aren't very good, but I can be polite in the local language and customs, and try to do all basic things like reading and ordering from menus in the native language instead of expecting everyone else to know English. I find that people like when Americans actually make an effort to learn the local ways, even if we aren't entirely successful. I also make it a point to avoid hotels and restaurants with a lot of American tourists. I'd rather talk to the locals rather than other tourists.

you guys must have heard about and / or seen the new Microsampler that will be released soon.

What are your thoughts compared to / with the ESX-1 ?

Thanks

from what I can see, the MicroSampler is just a sampler with no sample manipulation, save for the effect section which looks similar to the Radias & R3 effects section. where you would probably be able to load in a filter, etc.

by contrast, the ESX still looks like the better purchase, first off. It is a Sampling & Synthesis machine which has much more powerful manipulation tools. and it has a pattern sequencer, whereas it sounds like the MicroSampler will have a sequencer similar to that on the tritons.

The microsampler looks like a glorified Casio SK-1.
