Hey guys,
I'm brand new to the forum, but figured my Korg collection is adding up (Polysix, EX800, K25) so it could help to get some suggestions from you folks.
This is probably a very silly question, but I'm new to MIDI and got a K25 in a trade: will the K25 function as a standalone MIDI controller for the EX800 (ie, no computer, just EX800 and K25 connected through MIDI and powered through adapters)? As of now I can't get it working that way, so I'm curious if maybe it's a "computer-only" device.
I tried changing the MIDI channel on both the K25 and EX800 (so that they matched, of course), but still no luck. Meanwhile, it works fine with Garageband through USB.
Any help you guys could give would be greatly appreciated! I'd love to keep the K25, but only if I can get it working with the EX800.
Thanks,
Paul

yes, it should work straight off. the whole reason for the power adaptor is so that you can use it as a MIDI controller without a PC USB connection..
also, MIDI is a standard, so there isn't much setup, most devices all transmit and receive the same basic messages.
according to the manual, it will not output MIDI messages from the keyboard when USB is connected (instead, it will appear as an output port on the computer).
are you sure that you have the OUT port connected to the MIDI IN on the EX800?
by the way, I loved my Poly800
wish I hadn't sold it!

Thanks for the info. I've tried everything, but can't get it working with any of my modules. Meanwhile, the EX800 works perfectly with my Xiosynth or Juno 106.
I just used the editor to change the MIDI channel to 2, then did the same on the EX800 and still no dice.
It's a bit frustrating, as I never planned on using it with the USB and no that's all I can get to work!
I opened it up last night and everything looks fine on the inside. I'm at a loss.

Update: when I use the K25 with Garagband via USB it works fine, then when I plug the EX800 into the Midi Out (which I know won't work as per the instructions) I get a message from Garageband saying something like "the number of MIDI inputs have changed."
So the computer recognizes what happens with the MIDI Out port, which should mean there's nothing wrong with it. While potentially informative, this is all the more frustrating, as I still can't get it to work with the EX800 (when not using USB).
Bah! Any special function in the editor or something that I'm not seeing?

Problem Solved
I think I got it working. I opened it up the other day and there must have been a dirty connection or something somewhere, as I touched the right spot and POW! I started to work just fine.
