another problem

Post by Peter_H »

Hi Folks
I'm probably doing something wrong  but here's my problem....
I am recording in Seq mode track by track. I record voices (Copy from program) on tracks 1 & 2 and drums on track 10 I do this for 30 measures. I want to record a combi from measure 31 onwards. The combi uses tracks 1 & 2 and changes the voices recorded on those tracks for those used by the combi.
I tried to get over this by copying tracks 1 & 2 to 15 & 16 (they are not used by the combi) and erasing the original tracks 1 & 2. I thought this would allow the combi to record on it's allotted tracks (Copy from Combi) but no - it cancels tracks 15 and 16, they revert to no voice.
The only way round this in my little mind would be to record the combi first and then add the extra tracks (which I don't really want to do) unless you guys have any other solution.
Any help would be appreciated

I have only ever managed to do this by doing the combi first and then looking to see which tracks were left untouched and therefore available to record onto. Then do single track recording over the top. Would be interested to see if there were other ways round this.

Well I've had an answer from the Korg site - no it can't be done, you have to record the Combi first as we suspected then add other progs to any free tracks. I was also looking for a way to save the tracks I'd already recorded then import them into the song but not found a way yet.
Thanks for your interest anyway Sean

well, just because you add the combi to your sequencer structure first, doesn't mean that you have to record on those tracks first.

if that makes any sense?

Hi
No I'm not sure what you mean, the combi I was going to use was made up of 6 tracks I think, 2 of which were already used by my recording of the first 30 measures. I wanted the combi to record from measure 31 onwards but as soon as it was selected the previously recorded tracks, although still there, had had their voices changed to those of the combi.
After copying the original 2 tracks (1 & 2) to tracks 15 & 16 which weren't used by the combi, I erased them. When I selected the combi it destroyed those 2 tracks in spite of not using them.

I've just had a reply from the Korg site from Limbic - he suggested recording the song as two songs, song 001 being the first 30 measures and song 002 being the combi and JOIN them together using the Cue-list.
From the manual you can use this method to make intros, verses, choruses, endings etc as different songs then join them together.
Is that cool or what!

Yea, that is cool. The problem I ran into doing this was when you use 2 completely different combis in a sequence. When you combine the 2 combis, there is a delay and it isn't seamless. If the combis are exactly the same, it works perfectly. I guess the processing power isn't strong enough to instantly load the combis immediately.

The way I get around this is using my DAW. I will record the first combi sequence on tracks 1 and 2 of my Roland, then record the 2nd combi on tracks 3 and 4 and put it together that way.
Good luck!

Interesting! thanks for the heads up on that. I guess you're right about the delay. Doing it with a DAW would mean you could fade one combi into another - yes? tempos being equal of course!
Thanks for your input

I think the delay is cuased by the effects. If you keep the same effects for both the songs, then the two songs will play seamless.
