foot pedal midi through Radias to computer

Post by auto-lock »

Hello,

i have a Roland FC300 connected via midi cable to my Radias-R, and the Radias-R via USB to my mac.

I assumed it was possible to send midi from the FC300 to both the Radias and the computer with this connection, but it is not working. Am i doing somthing wrong, or is it not possible ?

Any help would be appreciated. :)

Without being 100% sure, I'm going to say yes. You just need to make sure you have your software configured to read MIDI from the right channel. Check this on your Radias under global -> pg. 4 -> Midi Ch, you can also see if your radias is sending midi over MIDI or USB or both there. Most likely it will be your software which isn't configured properly.

Course xmlguy might have more to say on this. I could be wrong all together. I'm still relatively new to this.

if you have the drivers installed properly, you should have two input options and two midi output options.

you get:
Radias MIDI IN
Radias KBD/Knob

Radias MIDI Out
Radias Sound

the Sound and KBD/Knob are for addressing the radias, they are the internal side of communication. the MIDI IN and Out are for directly addressing external gear on the MIDI ports.

there is a good diagram in the manual explaining it (see 'About the RADIAS and the driver ports', p154 in the v2.0 manual PDF. I don't have my 1.0 manual on me right now.)

I also don't have a Radias, but I suspect the answer is no. Other Korg keyboards don't combine input received on MIDI IN with input generated by the keyboard and its knobs and dials, and send the combined datastream to MIDI OUT. You could get the data from the pedal from the Radias' MIDI THRU, if it has one, but that'd be a MIDI signal and not USB, so you'd still need another way to get it into your computer.

I could be wrong; hopefully the Radias is more full-featured in this sense.

I've just said, the answer is Yes. I use it like this all the time and is written right there in the manual.

edit:
sorry if that appears harsh, I wasn't actually lashing out. it just seems odd when the answer is already there and then it gets directly contradicted. almost like no-one even read it. Obviously it would be different if it were a subject of opinion

I didn't get that from your answer (and obviously don't have my own Radias to try it on).

X-Trade wins; it can be done :)
