Yup...one by one. You have to clear each part in a pattern. Unfortunately the ES-1 doesnt have a dedicated "clear pattern" button like the ESX!3rdness wrote:is there any way to at least erase all of the settings for a pattern? or do you really have to go in and erase every hit of every part - plus every part setting (pitch/filter) and effect? that's crazy!!!!!
But heres a tip, clear each part in a pattern and than save it. Once you've saved it just write that newly blank pattern to another pattern. Voila, now you have two blank patterns without all the extra work

Just repeat this process for each pattern until their all blank, and you'll have an empty ES-1 in no time flat.

Easy
I've uploaded the factory default bank here:-
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=VIHGQ7KE
Load that onto a formatted smart media card. Pop it into the ES-1 and then
1. Select global -> shift + 15 [global card]
2. Using the wheel select load -> all
3. Select the default bank [1]
4. Wait for it to load. Should take a minute or 2.
You should now be back at the factory start.

I know this is an old thread, but I came across the same question. (I found the ES-1's factory preset useless and I wanted to completely wipe out the loaded samples and patterns as well.)
The easiest way to wipe all the patterns and sample banks is get an empty ES1 file. I got it from Yahoo Electribe forum.

The empty ES1 file can be found in the file section. You have to join the group in order to get it though.
I got Electribe ES mk2 firmware there, and applied it to my ES-1.
Thank you

It is a matter of taking away what the patterns are using to create the factory sounds. Deleting the patterns or songs does not work because samples will remain in each song or pattern that is recorded. Therefore, the only way to record a beat using your own samples is to remove the samples by deleting them all. After the samples are deleted you must then go to make a pattern by using the 16 keys to make your own beat with samples that you make with an input device or a smartmedia card.
