Changing "banks" on Padkontrol

Post by smooveface »

Let me preface this by saying I'm a padkontrol newbie user. I just got this thing set up to use with Cubase and would like to use it to control groove agent. I tried loading the preset template for Groove Agent, but I couldn't get it to make a sound. I have since just used someone of the preset scenes that came loaded on the padkontrol. I know you can change pad assignments very easily. THe question I have is once I do get this set up with Groove Agent, there are several banks of sounds (16 sounds across the pads). If I were using an MPC or similar drum machine, I'd just hit a bank select function and the 16 pads would just "move" to keyboard assignments across the piano keyboard. Is that how the padkontrol is configured where you'd have banks of 16 keys across the keyboard and you can move up or down that keyboard by selecting the banks?

Can someone please help out with this? And yes, I have tried my best to understand this from the manual.

Thanks

In other words, do you have to set up separate scenes for each "bank" of sounds chromatically across the keyboard? I would think there would be preset scenes that just chromatically lay the pads across the keyboard.

I also must start with saying that I'm not a cubase user so i'll help you the best I CAN!
Ok if I understand well :
- You are trying to control the Groove agent in Cubase with your padKONTROL but it is not working !?
Check on Editor Librarian if the midi notes that are assigned in the default "#24 Groove Agent" scene are thhe one you really need. (I guess you did but .. never know.)
At least you are supposed to hear your loaded samples ( if you loaded sum and correctly mapped) . By the way you know that the padKONTROL is like a Gamepad right it contains no sounds and never will ( your gamepad has no game but just send inputs to your pc )

The padKONTROL is set up to automatically change the pad's note or cc assigments with that marvelous.. (rollllll....)
"SCENE CHANGE BUTTON+ padnumber(1-16) "
but you will have to set other scenes chromatically yourself, and save the whole scene set and send it to your padmachine.

I know you might be deceived and you want maybe to use the less scenes possible. if if does work this way try to just keep the same scen but configure the groove agent to map thes other sound ont other midi channel .. ( maybe that you will hav to create several of GA and restrict each of them to a midi channel... idk I don't know Cubase that much so !

Software :Sonar 6 ; Reason 4 ; Ableton Live8 (but don't use it ) ; Addictive Drums v1.5 ; FXpansion GURU ;
...Sounds Good! Burn the sound.

Thanks for the reply. The issue is the way the Groove Agent pads are configured. There are 16 virtual pads on Groove Agent and I want to make that pad configuration match the pad midi note assisgnments on the Padkontrol. I guess I can either change the pad assignments on Groove Agent or change the assignments on the Padkontrol. If I do this will I need to create a scene for every bank of sounds I want to use. In other words, when I load up a kit in Groove Agent there may be like 3 groups of 16 sounds and you choose Group 1 for the first 16 sounds, Group 2 for the 2nd group and so on....

What I want to be able to do is pull up my samples via Groove Agent (or battery or guru) and then be able to pull up my Padkontrol and the pad assignments on the virtual machine match the pad assignments on the padkontrol. For example on the padkontrol the first pad is G6 and then A6 right next to it. On groove agent the pad assignments don't seem to have a consistent flow. In fact if I add different kits in GA, there will be different pad assignments.

Help! One thing I can say is this thing is DOPE. It is sample accurate in terms of timing. I was expecting some kind of latency, but if there is I don't notice it at all. I just want to be able to configure this thing. Maybe the answer is moving to another drum plugin that is more set up to work with Padkontrol?
