R3 <-> BCR2000 - data request
Hello!
I have a BCR2000 midi controller to tweak the parameters of my R3.
By means of the midi learn function it works very well!
But is there a way to send the current paramater values to the BCR2000 for displaying them with its LED rings? Because if I the switch the patch on the R3 the LED rings on the BCR2000 still show the old settings.
In fact the BCR2000 offers a data request function, but unfortunately the R3 doesn't recognize it..
Any help is appreciated!
Regards,
putzi

The R3 (or any synth) is not going to automatically send any parameter values over midi when a program change is done. However, it will respond with parameter values when requested. So your challenge is to have some programming waiting for a program change event, then send the proper commands to get the parameters you want from the R3, then send the proper commands to the BCR2000 to update the values. I don't know if the BCR2000 can do that, but it's either that or programming that you have to do elsewhere. The Korg editor software is obviously doing this, because it can retrieve the parameter values from the hardware.
yes. you can probably do it with an individual program dump.
but as xmlguy says, the trick would be to get something to request a dump like the editor software does, every time that you change program.
it may be that you might be able to assign sysex to a button, but I haven't looked into this. but then you may be able to make a 'request' button on your BCR that sends the dump request.
other options involve writing your own software to run on a PC, or some kind of script.
have you looked at the manual for the BCR2000? i'd check it relating to the dump request mentioned above.

r3 -bcr 2000
hi mate, i have a bcr 2000, how do you get it to control the r3 ? any help would be much appreciated.
MicroKorg & Behringer BCR2000
Hi, similarly I've got the Behringer BCR2000 hooked up with MIDI in and out cables.
I've setup a preset on the BCR2000 so that most of the MicroKorg's editable parametres are all assigned. It works great.
My only problem is that when I change preset on the MicroKorg, the new values are not sent to the BCR2000. If they were, that would be perfect!
I can't even get the BCR2000 to update by using a Data Dump Request (hold down EDIT and press LEARN) from the BCR2000, or by trying a Data Dump Transfer command (Shift & 6, use Knob 1 to choose Prog1, then press 6 again) from the MicroKorg.
The BCR2000 manual says that I need to define the Dump Request command in the BCEdit software on the computer. But I can't figure out for the life of me how to do ANYTHING in that software!
Any help would be really really appreciated! I want to make a video of how I got the two things hooked up, but this is the final missing link to making it work really great.
I'd love to hear how to get this data dump working! If there was a way to get the MicroKorg to automatically send all it's CC# values (and NRPN values if possible too), that would be great. But even just to be able to use a manual command would be fine.
If I could hook up a Data Dump Request to a single key on the BCR2000, that would probably be my favorite preference after the possibility of it being fully automatic.
Any ideas?
- Murray

I think it's impossible
Nope, I have not had any luck, nor has anyone figured out how to do it.
I guess it's impossible and beyond the skill level of any human being in the solar system.
Last ditch attempt at a dare.

I'm fairly sure its just impossible. Almost no synthesizers (NONE as far as I know) support the facility to dump all of their parameters at program change automatically, its just not usually needed.

It doesnt need to be automatic.
the program change does not need to be linked to the actual request for the data.
in fact this is something berhinger claims CAN be done with this very device, with "request midi data" function.
it all depends on the device you are using and if it is compatible right?
well i want to be shown an instance where this works for berhinger with ANY device.
it is not about program change program change is a circumstance where this would be usefull. it should be simple a blast of updated CC's
man, super frustrating. im going to search the world

There is no question about whether this task is technically possible, it certainly is with a computer inbetween the midi controller and synth with software to keep the parameter values updated on the controller. After all, this is what synth software editors already do to show and update their own values, so it's only a matter of updating the controller and synth with events that occur.
So this is not a difficult technical challenge. However, it will be a large budgetary challenge to get someone to do this for you, as good software developers tend to be expensive and busy getting paid on other projects.
And in case you're wondering, no, I wouldn't do this for free. I wouldn't even start the project without a $20,000 payment in advance to cover the first few weeks of the software development team's time and materials. The first task would be a proof-of-concept prototype to demonstrate that the task is 100% doable by updating keeping a single parameter updated between the controller and synth. Oh, and that $20K is not a fixed price quote: it's only time and materials for actual work to be done, not as any kind of an estimate as to the final cost of the project, which will depend on your requirements as much as anything else to estimate the scope of the effort.
I expect that a project of this sort is not a very good financial investment for an individual, however this could be a good investment for a company that develops their own midi foot controller product. Instead, you might want to look at a more sophisticated midi foot controller like this:

Have you tried this feature then? if it has a variety of settings have you tried each one?augustin18781 wrote: in fact this is something berhinger claims CAN be done with this very device, with "request midi data" function.
