sounds on m50

Post by roryn1 »

I'm trying to make all the synth sounds on Stick Stickly by Attack Attack on my m50 but all the original presets for techno/synth on the m50 are basically crap. Can someone tell me how to make these sounds?

Turn the volume all the way down. Press a single key (middle C, ideally, if you know which one that is). Imagine the most atmospheric "techno/synth" sound that you can. I've gotten very good results with this process. It's like magic. Hard to record, though.

I wouldn't have bought a thousand dollar keyboard and not know what C is.

I called Korg about the problem and they fixed it :)

As I suggested elsewhere:

Go learn subtractive synthesis, and then come back to your Korg and it'll make a lot more sense.

However, you seem to be the type who tries something for a few minutes, doesn't get perfect results, and then posts vague, frustrated questions here, so I doubt you'll take my advice. Hopefully anyone else reading this thread with a similar question will listen.

So, what was Korg's suggestion to fix your problem?

this is the 2nd incoherent forum post ive read in here today, where the topic and question is clearly stated, then someone says something dumb about it, mouthy kinda, then the guy responds with no information at all, KORG "FIXED IT"....

....FIXED WHAT

from your post it sounded like u were trying to make a certain sound? and the keybaord sounds itself are crap?

then korg,...unfixed the crappyness of the whole keyboard?

Well, I was the one responsible for the "dumb" and "mouthy kinda" response to the original post. What you don't realize is that the OP had already started several threads that were little more than misinformed diatribes against the M50. The declaration that "all synth/techno" sounds on the M50 were "crap" just invited a non-serious response, it seemed to me.

I agree, though, that it would be nice to know what, exactly, Korg "fixed."

well ive been in guitar center testing the m50, and i bought the x50 to take it home and get in it and see how good it is, my verdict....

the x50 costs about 699.

the m50 costs 1099

but the x50 has no seq, or extra stuff like the m50

so whats to be said....., if the x50 had a seq and stuff like the m50, it would be what 1399?

i really like the korg editor for the x50, it sucks editing in the korg screen, the korg editor is really handy and fast, but im used to working with a mouse and playing a keyboard

The M50 comes with a PC/Mac Editor as well.

Now, you liked the X50 sounds better, more rounder and ballsy? I agree.

How this post improves what you called an "incoherent" thread is beyond me.

right, from just comparing the 2 boards, the x50 and the m50, the x50 at my house, and about an hour of standing at guitarcenter playing the m50 2 or three times,

the x50 seems like the sounds are as you said more ballsy/rounder, i would describe it as "thicker"

and after about 30 mins of playing with the m3, i couldnt really get anything good out of it, except super uber cool lounge acid jazz stuff, even my lil bro was like, the x50 seems like it just "comes ready" to use more
obviously if i spent some good time with the m50 or the m3 they would be beasts.

couple more tests, gonna record some songs and see what it do

also remember that the X50 only has one IFX and two MFX processors.

the M50 has 5IFX, two MFX, and one TFX (affects everything. for example good for a master stereo limiter).

plus each timbre has EQ whereas the X50 only has EQ over the whole prog/seq/combi.

that alone sells the M50 for me - as soon as I have the money.

if you take the X50 and add a sequencer, you get the TR. I don't know what currency you are talking in, but the TR would be $900 or so new, or £700 plus it has some options like sampling and aftertouch that the M50 doesn't have.
