HPF Level 0. Direct Level 0.

Don't sing into the vocoder: speak into it. And over-enunciate. Singing into it actually reduces the clarity of the vocode - and the content of your voice is stripped away in any case. It's the synth timbre that provides the pitch and does the singing. Your voice is used to apply the formant to the carrier, and speaking clearly into to the mic is usually the best way to do that. One trick is to block your own voice and practice with closed ear headphones.
