I do not like to take the dongle on the road with me on my laptop when Ia m working in another studio or playing live.Mark Erickson wrote:I would like an official explanation of this change. I prefer the USB Key myself and you could use it on more than one machine contary to an earlier post, you just plug the key in to which ever machine you want to run on.
Any chance of an explanation Korg?
Thanks,
Mark
clearly I know the above works.

Exactly, whenever the key gets cracked Steinberg normally just release an update shortly-ish after and an upgrade sometime after that which means the crackers have to start all over again. My understanding is that C/R is much easier to crack. I really don't understand this, seems crazy to me.evildragon wrote:Maybe because synchrosoft got cracked badly.
But C-R is even easier to crack. :/
I have read but I don't know how true it is that Steinberg bought Syncrosoft (or at least the Key technology) and maybe that's got something to do with it but I'd love to know for sure.
I'll say it again though, I definitely prefer the key.

I take the key with me travelling to and from Spain (and the UK) all the time. Not had a problem so far. I am very careful with it of course.zvenx wrote:I do not like to take the dongle on the road with me on my laptop when Ia m working in another studio or playing live.Mark Erickson wrote:I would like an official explanation of this change. Edit: been doing that for almost seven years! (since the beginning of 2003)
yeah i just got this email, i honestly think it is stupid that i have to go looking for my old product code on the cd or packaging, it's been years i have no clue where that is... and they want me to go to a 'korg distributor' to find it????
this code should be on my korguser.net account i shouldn't have to look for it after being a legit user who obviously has the key after these years. bad 'upgrade' idea if you ask me. comments appreciated.

Hopefully Jerry K. from Korg will see this thread and respond.Mark Erickson wrote:I would like an official explanation of this change.
Steinberg acquired the USB key technology from Syncrosoft in December, 2008:

There is even a new "license control" application, and Steinberg's "eLicenser" website now stores all of the software downloads:

Hi All
As some of you have said Syncrosoft's eLicenser copy protection section has been acquired by Steinberg and as some of you may not be aware, their system will be changing from next year. So, we have decided to change our copy protection method for the KORG Legacy Collection series from the USB dongle to the challenge/response code system we used previously for License Authorization.
This is to allow us to take back control of the licensing system for the software that up until now was reliant on the elicencing system.
Some of you may know that when trying to reissue licences for lost or stolen dongles, we had to apply to Syncrosoft for a new licence. This was time consuming for us and you as users and not always successful and it meant you also having to acquire a new dongle which itself wasn't easy to get in some cases.
Now the distributor in your region can assist you much more quickly and you the user can easily obtain a new licence from the user.net site.
Hope this makes sense.

Hi, yes thanks for the reply and explanation. Once I'd remembered about Synchrosoft changing hands I thought it must be to do with that in some way.
Personally, I prefer the key but understand your reasoning. I wasn't really expecting a reply, too many years dealing with Steinberg I suppose!
Thanks,
Mark
