es1 powersupply fix

Post by lazy_bonez10736 »

i baught a used es1 off ebay a year or so ago....and had problems with the powersupply being loose from the start....but its finally completely out.....no power at all any more...its wiggled its self loose....

i took the back panel off to see if i could fix it with a sodering iron or something....but when i saw i would have to remove a big circuit board i put it away till i found someone who knew what they were doing....and since ive yet to find someone....here i am....and now that i have an emx im really itchin to have it functional again

anyone ever had any luck trying this?...how likely am i to really break it where i cant fix it?

What exactly is loose? Is it the black socket for the connector that is soldered to the circuit board?

If you know how to solder and none of the leads got damaged then that's a pretty simple fix.... but I tell everyone this.... soldering is not rocket science but you really need to have good practice and know what you're doing before you attempt anything like this. I have screwed quite a few projects while soldering without the skills needed. Don't risk it unless you are skilled enough and comfortable enough to do it.

But yes please describe exactly what is happening and which part is moving.

the part im talking about is the black thing u plug the power cable into......
and it isnt like moving around or anything....it just doesnt connect when you plug it in....and it wont come on at all...im hoping its just a loose wire...but i havent actually taken the circuitboard off to see the inside of the thing...i was afrade to damage it in a way i couldnt fix in the future...

and i havent really soddered anything before...i was kinda thinkin about ordering some diy electronics kit to get an idea of what im doing before i try

Would love to see an answer to this. This is not uncommon, as I own two es-1's... one is completely dead (The female power supply connector (the black thing) got really loose and the box would restart in the middle of a performance... solution: resolder, but then the box died three months afterwards.... wasn't a dead wall wart issue), the second shows definite power problems, completely undependable live)....

Now that I have the esx and emx, the es-1 gathers dust... and the second sits in a box: anybody ever send theirs out for the same repair? If so, how much did it cost?

BACK FROM THE DEAD!.....the pile of circuit boards that a drunk friend of mine left after attempting to fix my electribe has been reassembled....and somehow kinda functions....the little soder point for power wasnt connected...i just didnt know what i was looking for and showed it to my dad and he fixed it immediatly and put it back togeather without seeing it torn apart...although i think he might have fuked up the effect knob...it kinda sinks into the board if u try to fiddle with it...i think its safe as long as i dont use internal effects....

...hopefully if anything messes up it just dies and doesnt shock me or catch on fire or anything...

Have got exactly the same issue (by the sounds of it) power cable needs to be pressed in manually or wiggled around until connection is made but often the power just drops out.

Anyone have a more detailed solution for this?? Really seems that is should be fixable.

BUMP for this issue. It's driving me mental. Powersupply needs holding place (in order make connection) via large amount of blu-tak! :( SO annoying as the machine is perfect for what I want...and yet this seems to be a (relatively) common issue so I'd be mad to buy another!!!
