How to copy AKAI Sample CD's to OASYS HD?

Post by Kevin Nolan »

Hi -
I bought the AKAI format sample CD 'World Wind' and want to copy its contents to the internal HD of the OASYS for convenience. Note I did purchase this new so I'm not attempting anything dubious.

However, I notice that the partitions of the CD are locked and I can't unlock them and so cannot copy across. Is it possible to unlock them, or is copying impossible?

Thanks,
Kevin.

Hi Kevin.

Just load the data into the OASYS using the Advanced AKAI loading features and then save it back the HDD in KORG format.

This is the only way it can be done because AKAI format is written in a completely different format than FAT 16 or an PC format for that matter.

Good choice on the AKAI title. I have that one myself and it's my number 2 library out of everything I have ever purchased.

Sharp

Hi Sharp -

Thanks a million for the pointer - I'll check that out for sure.

Yes - World Winds is an excellent sample CD - actually I sought it out after you pointed out on this forum that good AKAI libraries could be loaded into the OASYS as well as they can be used by AKAI samplers themselves. So libraries like these greatly enhance the OASYS.

Actually - while we're on the subject - I don't suppose you can recommend similar AKAI Sample library for Orchestral Percussion - especially including good Timpani, Bass Drum and large Gong; and an AKAI sample library with a goo selection of Ethnic percussion instruments?

cheers,
Kevin.

Hello kevin.

would there be anything of use from this site? (time-space) http://www.timespace.com/product/product_list.php

I got Akai garriton Orchestral Strings from here (for triton studio)

As for sharps "it's my number 2 library out of everything"

...I bet this is his number one:)

Hi Anthony -

Thanks a million for the excellent pointer (and to Sharp's supposed no. 1 - I'll definitely look into that too) - much appreciated.

Cheers!

Go to disk mode, select the save tab, and then touch the tab in the top right of the screen.

Now select save all data. When saying you can specify that the OASYS only saves the bank where the AKAI sounds where loaded into.

Hi,

Just wondered if any of you guys can confirm that the Garritan Personal Orchestra 4 will work fine with the Oasys? If so, I will download/buy this version: http://www.garritan.com/products_gpo4.html

The OASYS should be a great controller keyboard for GPO, but you won't be able to install GPO in the OASYS or use its samples within the OASYS' sampler. A computer is required to run GPO.

Ok, I see. It's been a while since I visited this forum and I see that the new Karo KSL are just released. I've checked out the demo's and among other things the new library also contains my favorite sounds from the KPS (sordino strings, oberheim pads etc) so I'll rather upgrade to KSL!! 8)

I'm betting that you haven't changed the source disk for saving to the internal HD. If it's still pointing to the CD-ROM drive (the Akai disk) that will be locked. Look at the bottom of the screen and the small right-pointing arrow. What does it say there?

Sharp -

It's taken me 7 months to get around to trying to upload my AKAI library onto my OASYS HD - but your suggestion does not work. As genebanks says after your post - if I select the CD, then go to save and choose the menu then no menu options are active - I can literally do nothing.

Any thoughts on why this might be the case? (I vaguely remember a pointer to some older OASYS being less capable in this regard - something to do with firm ware, or CDROM versus DVD differences???). Any pointers would be appreciated.

I actually own Chicken Systems TRANSLATOR - it could convert them to Triton samples - can these be read by the OASYS (I'll give it a try but wonder if you know?). Or any other thoughts on how I can use either of my two laptops (Vista and XP) to transfer them to my OASYS USB HD?

Thanks,
Kevin.

No worries, just read Jerry's reply above. Your doing the same thing wrong as Gene. Your trying to save back to the CD and not the HDD.

The best conversion method is the one I've explained. Chickensys is not the way to go at all here.

Cheers
Sharp.
