Newbie asking question about 2.4.1 OS upgrade
Hi Guys,
I recently bought a secondhand Trinity Plus. What a machine!
I should have bought one years ago.....I had a guy come in the studio in 1996 and was impressed but never had the gumption to cough up £2000 for the keyboard then. So after using a Emu Emax2, then an EMU Morpheus, then an EMU E4K, then an Alesis Fusion 8HD, then AKAI S6000 I find myself purchasing a keyboard that is 14 years old, but sounds fresh and exciting unlike the crop of Fantoms and the Alesis Fusion I tried recently. Maybe the love affair will only last a certain length of time, but I bought it primarily for the sequencer and the touch screen...the sounds (which are are terrific at what they do) are a bonus.
The machine I have has OS version 2.1.0 on it. I've downloaded 2.4.1 and have it connected to the mains via a UPS (uninterrupted power supply) but I'm a liitle apprehensive at upgrading just in case it hangs mid-way (this is a 14 year old keyboard after all).
The keyboard works fine at the moment and hasn't crashed yet (although I've been mainly just playing the demo songs and presets) Do you think it's worth the risk upgrading? What did the upgrade to 2.4.1 bring? Was it enhancements or bug fixes.
Thanks for any help you might be able to offer.

Hi Al - Congrats on your purchase! Just my opinion but the Trinity Plus is a really awesome synth. It has tons of flexibility on top of beautiful voicing and some very expressive after touch on the keyboard and ribbon controller; I always find myself coming back for more.
OS 2.1.0 is certainly a few revs back. When I got mine a couple of years ago it had OS 2.2.0 or something like that on it. Like you, I was a little apprehensive but I flashed it up to 2.4.1 the same day I got it with no problems. I'd say if you have it plugged into a UPS you're even safer.
Just a suggestion before you do it; make sure your floppy drive is in good working order. It likely is since there isn't a fan sucking dust through it and in most cases it rarely gets used. My worked perfectly.
Enjoy!

Cheers 3 Fingers,
I went ahead and upgraded after reading another posting where the poster said he'd bought a machine in a pretty poor condition and the upgrade went fine so I chanced it.
Fortunately the machine upgraded first time....though I'm still not sure what the differences if any are?.........maybe just bug fixes?
Certainly enjoying the machine ........it's a welcome change from having an unlimited supply of sounds but only one lifetime in which to go through them (as per most samplers and modern workstations).
Sometimes, less is more.

The Trinity is the most beautiful and the most awesome synth ever created! The only thing better is the OASYS but that is way in another league by itself.
There are so many PCGs available on line for the Trinity which provide countless patches, all for free.
Go here for more info:

There is also a PCG called PINK 1 and Pink2, that has some really nice Patches and the DEMO songs are incredible. Really awesome machine. I will be getting a TRack someday in case my beloved trinity kicks the can.
Best,
Musikman

I think some of the OS upgrades, as well as bug-fixing, were efficiency related - speeding up the LCD redraw, etc.
Congratz on the Trinity.
One of the best pad machines out there.

I must say that the speed of the lcd was fixed in 2.0.0, and din't suffer changes in later updates.Timo wrote:I think some of the OS upgrades, as well as bug-fixing, were efficiency related - speeding up the LCD redraw, etc.

The 2.4.1 had more compatabilities with scsi devices and offer compatibilities with stereo wav files when pbs is installed.
