Combi Question

Post by TheWindWaker01 »

I just got my m50 up and running today (got it in the mail a couple days ago, without a power supply  )

I was trying to make an initialized combi, so I picked a string patch for the first timbre, and then choir for te second timbre but I can't hear the choir, only the sound that I selected for timbre 1 (strings). Help please? Much appreciated :)

Disclaimer: I don't have my M50 here, so I might be a bit away from the real menu names...

That being said, tap the Page Select button, select Timbre, MIDI 1-8 tab and then make sure all the timbres you want to hear on your M50 are on 01G MIDI channel.

By default, all new combis come with just the first timbre as MIDI channel 01G (M50 Piano), the rest are preselected to MIDI channels 02, 03 and so on and so forth.

I keep on reiterating the same information, but I have to stress here that if you really intend on having the sounds play at the same time, you should select G instead of 01G. I think in the selection G comes after 16.

01G is specifically selecting channel 1, and just letting you know that just happens to be the global channel on your M50 at the moment.

Selecting G means that you are actually saying 'use the global channel, irrespective of what that is'. Unless you are working with EXT timbres or external gear for some specific use, G is preferable if you are intending on making that timbre work because it means if you change the M50's global channel, your combi will still work! if you set it to 01G and set the global channel to ch2, then you won't hear anything because it will be trying to trigger the global channel, which is 2 (and now will appear as 02G), but all of your timbres are set specifically to channel 1...

It is also annoying when people release PCGs on the internet (e.g. if you decide to share some of your creations) when the person who downloads it is using a global channel other than 1, and find that none of your combis work correctly (I found this with a lot of the artist programs for the Radias v2.0 software for example, because I have my Radias rack set to ch2 global).

You are right X. I simply haven't had the discipline to go and "normalize" all my combis by selecting G on the main timbres. Since I use my M50 as 01 and my controller as 02.

But you are right is a good idea to have all of them that way.

I apologize for the continuous stream of questions, but I have another problem. somehow my D combi bank has been been filled with all of the pcombis from bank A, so it's pretty much the same thing as A without all of the init programs. I want that bank of free programs, how do I get it back like that?
