Can Not update my PA800 from 1.0 to 2.01
Hello Folks,
Trying to update or format a friends PA800 i get the following error:
The following package is not in the correct format or corrupted.
Tried 2 different sticks, downloaded files twice and formated stick on PA800.
Any one seen this before?
The only thought i had was because it was the very first O/S this upgrade is too big of a jump?
All help and ideas would be most welcome.
Thank you all in advance.

The USB stick must NOT be one that auto-loads anything on a PC. If you plug it into a PC and a chooser box is displayed asking what you want to do with this device, then the USB stick is OK also for the Pa800. If anything at all auto-runs on a PC then thie stick contains a hidden partition and cannot be used on Pa800. Not even "format"removes the hidden partition.
The files you need are:
Pa800_format.pkg
Pa800_os_res_v201.pkg
They have to be in the root level of the USB stick.
Power-on while holding down INTRO1.
Regards,
Rob

Oh yes indeed only 2 files in the root directory of my USB Stick
Pa800_format.pkg
Pa800_os_res_v201.pkg
Still the same error message. What on earth is going on here. I am currently on my 29th year as a component level electronics engineer I can not for the life of me figure this one out.
Does any one have any older O/S they could send me?
I would like to try an incremental upgrade.
Thank you all again in advance

Music_service,
No, the update files are correct and they work fine.
Try your USB stick in a different known working Pa800? You get the same error message, even in a different Pa800 right? Why is that?
I think it's because your USB stick has a hidden U3 partition which causes the Pa800 upddate to fail. You can test it by putting some .MP3 files on the stick. When you plug the stick into the PC it autoplay them right?
You must use a USB stick that has no U3 partition and which will not load any software or autoplay when you plug it into a PC.
Regards,
Rob

Alas I do not have access to another PA800 but i did try your suggestion of copying some .MP3 files to the stick it did not auto play.

Music service,
Sorry to go over old ground, I asked you for a JPG image of the files on the USB stick, partly because I want to verify file sizes and dates against the versions I downloaded.
Also I cannot understand how you managed to copy these files to the SSD on your Pa800? There is insufficient space on the internal SSD for the total file capacity of Pa800_os_res_v201.pkg which is over 120 Mbytes. Also as far as I know you cannot update the OS from SSD.
Regards,
Rob

Hello Rob,
Having a spot of bother with the Jpeg but the file size is
130,913k for the O/S and 828K for the format package.
I also I tried an incremental upgrade/format using files from here: http://www.timomusic.ch/
This resulted in the same error. I only copied the Format.pkg to the SSD, as you mentioned the O/s is to large.
I had a quick look in the service menu saw a USB test facility. But heeded your warning Sticky post and came right out of there!
Thank you again for all the assistance so far

Tony,
Only thing I can suggest at the moment ... try using your USB stick with another known working Pa800, just to prove whether the USB stick is OK. You know ... power on while holding down the INTRO1 button ....
If the USB stick allows Pa800_format.pkg etc to run on another Pa800, but not on yours then there is a hardware fault on your Pa800, possibly with the USB ports or the CPU motherboard.
Be careful of course becasue Pa800_format.pkg wipes all user data, do a .SEt file back up first!
Regards,
Rob

At what stage do you get the above error message? Is it before or after the format?music service wrote:Trying to update or format a friends PA800 i get the following error:

Are you able to format but not load the os_res, or are you not able to even get through the format?
