PA800 GOING OUT OF TUNE BY 2 KEYS

Post by chaldeans »

HI everyone i am facing one of the strangest problem ever with my pa800, today all of the sudden while playing on the pa800 the arranger section was ok but the solo section is going out of tune as if someone transposed it by 2 keys down while the arranger style section is playing correctly, i thought it was one of those ram issues because some sounds also sounded distorted, i reinstalled the operating system and the system resources didnt install any set just to test it, again the out of tune on solo section by the keyboard default sounds still 2 keys down out of tune while the style section is playing correctly, whats happening? by the way it does play correctly for few seconds and than it goes off again i dont get it, can you guys help any1 experinced this before? if its ram issue why are the factory sounds affected? thanks everyone

Hi Stephan,

My guess is that there is still data corruption in the SSD. It is often caused by loading .SET files from unknown keyboards. What you have done so far would not fix SSD data corrruption. You can fix it by downloading two files from www.korgpa.com called:

Pa800_Format.ZIP
Pa800_os_res_v201.ZIP

Then extract the .PKG files and put them on a USB stick
Then use the POWER ON + INTRO1 method to run the two files in this order:

Pa800_format.pkg
Pa800_os_res_v201.pkg

This will have the effect of completely wiping the SSD and then re-initializing it with the factory build.

Let me know if this solves the problem?

Best regards,
Rob

Definitely worth following Rob's recommendations plus....

...you might want to check the joystick - I had a joystick on an older model which did similar things (but not quite as severe as a tone out of tune).

Cheers

Hi Stephan,

Glad it fixed it. Keep the two files I mentioned on a clean USB stick, just in case you have to do it again in the future. Like I said the sort of problems you noticed are often caused by loading "strange" .SET files.

Rob

Problem with the Joystick

Post by frankeys »

Hi,

Even I am facing a problem similar to this, with a slight difference. I think the route cause may be completely different. Nevertheless I would like to ask the senior members of this forum for help.

After I use the Y+ of joystick, the tone is not returning to normal pitch immediately. Some times its going out of tune by half or one note....is this some kind of modulation that I am mistaking to be a problem. Or is this an issue with the Joystick ?

If this is a Joystick issue, is there anything I can do without replacing the part ?

Does anyone have an idea, where I can get a Korg PA500 Joystick part in INDIA ? Approximate price ? Part Number ?

Awaiting your valuable commments

Hi frankeys,

Yes this is a joystick hardware issue. It can often happen like this if the joystick has been knocked during transit. One of the internal lugs or springs gets broken. It would be best to order a new joystick, unfortunately. You may be able to fit it yourself if your keyboard is not in warranty. If it is in warranty you may be able to persuade them do do a free repair. The Korg distributor in India is:
