sounds and PA2x

Post by rundll32 »

Hi everybody !
I'm looking for a software (pc) for PA2x that could edit internal sounds or, better, samples which could be converted to PA format . Does anything like this exist ? . This would allow me to avoid directly working with the editing or sampling mode , that is a bit difficult for my eyes.
Thanks a lot !

Hi rundll32,

I guess with that username you must be a Windows XP-32 user (like me) so I will try to answer your questions with that OS in mind. I am also migrating my music sequencing and sound editing and recording software over to Windows 7-64 although I have not "gone live" yet because of some essential components that still do not work properly under W7-64.

Sound Conversion and Sample Editing
The "best" software package in terms of sound conversion and sample edit and conversion and looping capability is probably Extreme Sample Converter (ESC). The downside of ESC is that there is no support for Korg Triton/ Trinity multisample editing, which is what we need. It has been discussed by Sharp and I with the ESC developers and they said last year that they might add it, but nothing so far. I think that for processing and editing of individual samples in batch automation mode, ESC is the best. You can load say 200 samples, and create a batch script that performs identical operations on all samples in one go. Saves hundreds of hours work.

Creating Korg Multisamples
Until ESC is updated to include the capability of creating and exporting Korg format Multisamples, the software that both Basaristudios and I use for Korg multisample creation is Awave Studio. There is a free version but the $100 full version has automation and more capabilities:

Putting the Pieces together - Making a Steinway Piano
There is a very long tutorial split into two threads about producing a new Steinway Piano sound for Pa2x/ Pa800. I used WavePad at the time for processing individual samples, and then Awave Studio for constructing Korg multisamples. If doing the job again, I would use ESC instead of WavePad for converting and processing the samples. The total amount of work involved constructing this one sound was about 200 hours. Maybe people will be able to create Pa2x/ Pa800 sounds in a shorter time than this. Certainly if the ESC developers add the Korg capabilities that Sharp and I requested, it would save a lot of effort.

Sound Editor and Librarian for Pa2x/ Pa800
One very skilled developer on this forum is Babosh. He has some software in an advance stage of development that will provide librarian functions to move sounds, styles and samples from one or more SET files, creating new SET files. It is hard to do this by hand on the Pa2x/ Pa800 and Babosh's software is showing a lot of promise to the extent that some people working for Korg have started to take notice. I hope Babosh will continue to develop a PC-based full Sound and Style editor for the Pa2x/ Pa800 that contains all the editing functions that are available in the Korg OS that runs on the Pa2x/ Pa800. I certainly think we as a forum should encourage Babosh and motivate him financially to do this.

Best regards,
Rob

Rob, i'm so glad to hear that Korg people are aware of Babosh's software. That's a good news for everybody who's interested in this software. Did you hear anything about the problem you were having with that "test" set?
