Newbie questions A : (1) In selecting certain options on the touch screen display, does a dark box or a light-colored box mean the option is selected. For example, in the 'memory protect" screen, does the shaded box or unshaded box designate memory protect "on"? (2) What does the open safety pin icon mean?

Shaded box = selected (or "on"). I'm pretty sure that the open pin icon means that you can make changes to the available parameters in that particular drop-down menu.

Touch the pin (to close it) and the drop down menu will stay open allowing you to preview the various options on the menu.
