Extreme with MOSS looking Good these days

Post by GregC »

EX76 w/MOSS and 96 meg ram owner here.

I haven't posted in a while so I am due :)

This might be a touch presumptuous, I think this board with MOSS is headed for classic keyboard territory.

Korg stopped production of the EX in 2004. Most of you know the MOSS.

I have been reading the steady interest in the Ex76 w/MOSS. The used prices are quite strong.

Not that I am selling, I love my Extreme. Others are lusting for it, no can touch is what I tell them.

If you have an Extreme w/MOSS, you should baby it.

Hi

I agree too, that the MOSS certainly is a legendary piece of technology...

I had a Triton EX with the MOSS and the RAM maxed out too (mine was a 61-key model though). I recently sold mine on ebay, but the Ex was sold separately because at that time I presumed that I'd make more money if I sold the MOSS separately.

Indeed, the board has to be babied - I had to replace the end-cheeks on one occasion - those things break easily!

Long live the Triton EX + MOSS combi! :)

I now have a Motif XS7, but I still miss those classic MOSS sounds...

good to hear from you

You are 100% correct about the plastic EX end cheeks.

I have the XS7 , as well. Good choice !

The XS 7 has industrial strength end cheeks to my eyes.

:)

It's been a while since I've frequented this forum, but it's good to be back every now and then :). Motifator.com's boring compared to this site - It wasn't as hot as it used to be when the Motif ES was the Ex's rival about 5 years ago...

Before I sold the MOSS, I was tempted to get a second-hand Triton Rack to house the MOSS in, but at the same time I wanted to streamline my studio. At times I still listen to my old compositions that sometimes feature the MOSS's sounds.

What do you think of the quality of the XS7's keys to the Triton EX76?
I agree with you. I rarely visit Mouthifator. They do have a few excellent
regulars there & I have learned important tips from them.

I did not like the Triton Rack, unless it was super cheap.

The XS7 keyboard is 'better ' than the EX76. I have them tiered for an easy compare. What's interesting, it looks like Y and K use identical keybeds. I could be wrong about this but the form factor is identical.

The EX76 has the typical synth action found on the Triton lineup.

The XS7 has slightly weighed keys. Just a touch of resistance, or heft, so to speak.
I vaguely recall that Y considered this a semi weighed keyboard or some
torturous marketing adjective.

The best semi weighed keyboard in the world was Roland's A50 midi
controller from the mid 90's. ( I think the A70 was the same). I loved
the feel of the A50. Unfortunately, the midi implementation was rocket science territory.

For being "classic" I've never heard anyone talk about using it in their music. :? I think its just rare. -speaking of the moss chip only.

I am aquiring two very nice pieces of Merlot colored Cherry wood and I will post the picture after I complete finishing & fitting them as end pieces. Looks really good and protects the board wonderfully!

thats an excellent idea. Can't wait for the pics.

How difficult is it to remove the end piece with the tube/ joystick/slider ?

I have a neighbor who is a skilled crafts person with wood and is an electrician.

It would seem very difficult to conform wood to match all the permutations.

when you have a minute, let me know how you figured that out.

Thanks !

Hi GregC-

I wish I had more time to elaborate, but after everything's been said and done with all things considered (OUTSIDE of personal tastes/preferences in regards to other viewpoints of TE)- TE w/Moss is one absolutely amazing setup to ME! It covers an immense amount of ground! Played out??? Who said that? I DIDN'T! It may not have the sound quality I would love to have that's in the Oasys, but it sure does have a lot of awesome subjective sound quality [especially w/moss] that I'm sure greatful to have!- Tim (TEX w/Moss -88 Keys)
