KARO PRODUCT POSTS
FWIW< Hi, I read the boards quite often and most of the topics are filled with KARO Selling this.. or KARO Selling that.. which I call SPAM>..Then they conveniently bump the topic any chance they get to move it to the top so everyone sees it! Then I go to Oasys and its the same thing there. Its great they create sound samples to sell, but I think they should promote their creations on Ebay. Isnt this a "Discussion" Board? or is it a chalkboard to sell products? I just feel like some people take advantage of any free thing they can and use it to their monetary benefit!! Thanks for listening to my beef.

KARO is one of the few companies that actually sell Korg-format programs and combi's (along with Kid Nepro, Irish Acts, karma-lab, etc). They are also the only developers for the OASYS, so they're presence i'm sure is greatly welcomed in the OASYS forums. I actually like that they are on here, there aren't many sources for sounds and sample sets that are tailored to the M3 or OASYS. finding them without this forum would be a huge pain! It's not like they are making a ton of threads and dominating the forums, as far as i'm concerned, they're totally welcome here. I only saw like 2 posts by them in each forum and they were pretty well buried... don't know why they are at the top for you. if it were something like Big Fish or East West selling generic AKAI's i'd be right there with you though.

I don't really have an opinion one way or another on this one, but how about a commercial subforum where anyone can advertise. If I was looking for a thread on patches for a synth, it would be a PITA to dig through pages and pages of threads that are synth specific.

Quite odd you would mentioned this now because only two days ago I brought up this subject in a part of the forum only moderators can see and read.
The rule is strictly no advertisements on the forum at all, but we do turn a blind eye to people who hang out on the forum and take part as fellow members helping others.
I think the entire subject needs to be revisited at this point and rules put in place and in writing.
Regards
Sharp.

I was think about something like that myself many months ago, but then I thought why should we provide a platform for them to make money off us when we provide the forum for free.Gargamel314 wrote:seconded!McHale wrote:I don't really have an opinion one way or another on this one, but how about a commercial subforum where anyone can advertise. So it won't ever happen, not as a free service to them to make money.
Please note that in this post and my previous one I am not taking about KARO. I'm talking about the entire situation and how the forum should be run.

we at KARO are terribly sorry that we disturbed and annoyed you with information that we thought would be welcomed by all M3 users. We are however glad that our info is appreciated by obviously several visitors of these forums and we hope that there is only little infringement with the expectations KORG users and KORGFORUM members and readers have.
I took the liberty to attemp understanding the way you have been thinking and by doing so I browsed your earlier publications on this forum. I must admit that I am quite surprised that your reaction to Steven Kay's introduction of CATALYST Vol. 1 (http://www.korgforums.com/forum/phpBB2/ ... c&start=15) was overwhelmingly positive. Obviously, your opinion about information on third party software add-ons has changed tremendously since April 2009.
I wonder whether you allowed me to encourage you to get back with any criticism on our work at KARO, be it the programming of sounds or the way we try to make others aware of our efforts or anything else, directly to us, e.g. by e-mail. I would be glad if we could improve our working performance by your help which would be greatly appreciated.
Best wishes,
Peter

I believe that you are right in the end. It is certainly more diligent not to mention products. BTW, I just clicked the banner in your signature. Nice.

Please allow me to ask you, being a moderator of these forums, what the right attitude should be for us.
Best regards,

Hi Peter.
I would have explained all this to whoever it was that contacted me originally looking for permission to advertise on the forum.
I will document this and make it available on the webstie for future reference, but the rule is that KORG Forums runs a strict no advertisement policy.
However, we do allow people who take part in the forum to bend the rules a little. To benefit from this you have to take part in the forum by helping people and answering their posts when they have problems. How you and others benefit from this is helping them with their technical problems gets your small banner at the end of your posts seen, and you get the respect from the person you helped. This banner must be very small, and you can see my own one as a reference point.
If you do all that, then again we will look the other way and allow new products to be announced on the forum so long as this is very limited. Say, no more than 1 a month and only if it's a new product or genuine new news worthy of taking up our bandwidth.
This thread popping is actually my fault because I haven't reinforced the rules in a long time regarding the no advertisement policy and you guys have actually been posting quite a lot lately. I was talking about you only 2 days ago in the Moderators section and I had plans to address this myself later. Not you guys, but the overall policy.
In the next day or so I'll actually make the guidelines available and from that point onwards I will stick to them and reinforce the rules. In all likely hood it won't effect you guys at all so long as you take part in the forum as fellow members helping others out.

Sharp.

Thank you very much for this piece of information. As you certainly guessed, it has never been our intention to infinge with your forum policy. I deeply regret this situation.
Since I do not want to cause any further infringement which I believe would certainly occur - we are about to release more then ten new M3 libs in the coming days and we were intending to inform the KORG users also by this forum - I believe that I should rather withdraw from the forum. I will leave it to Kurt to decide what will be the best way to move on.
I wish you and all members and readers all the best.
Bests,
Peter

This is not correct. Through and with Karma Lab, I have developed, and continue to develop, combi collections for the Korg OASYS such as Catalyst v 1.They are also the only developers for the OASYS
Now, when I first joined such forums as KF, KLF, the old yahoo groups, I found it helpful to learn what third party material was available for my gear. I appreciated posts providing short descriptions and links to new offerings by various developers. Rarely did I ever read posts from members who found these intrusive. Frankly, you don't have to click on them, nor read any of it.
However, I have a suggestion if the majority find such posts an affront. I don't, by the way. How else will members learn what is available? What would be wrong with establishing a new set of threads entitled 3rd Party Advertisements, for example?
If most of us don't believe these posts from 3rd party developers are an infringement (including mine and yours too, Sharp), then leave it alone and as is. That's the way I see it.

Hi Peter.
I've not had to enforce that rule or remind anyone of it in a long time, but things have slipped and that's why this thread exists. So it's mainly my fault not enforcing our own rules which we have made known to every third party developer, and for also not having those rules made available in print for people to use as a reference.
All of which will be addressed and things will be put back to the way they have always been.
Its' simple, you get nothing for nothing and there is no free ride. If you want to promote your software then put a tiny banner at the end of your posts in around the same size as my own and take part in the forum as everyone else does. Answer posts and help people out.
It's a very fair system. You give and you receive. You give nothing and you get nothing in return.
Regards
Sharp.
