Hi Wares7,
Yes it is possible. Certainly .SET files containing STYLES (.STY) based on Pa1x factory sounds will load with no problems. If your STYLES use USER sounds then you will hit some problems. The best way to proceed in that case would be to save one .SET file containing all the .PCG and .PCM user sounds and samples, and temporarily modify all your USER STYLES so that they use factory sounds and drumkits. Also make sure the .SET files contain no GLOBAL folder because that will really screw up the Pa2x if you try to load it.
Then on the Pa2x, load the .SEt file containing all the styles first and check they work with Pa2x factory sounds. Then load the .SET file containing all the user SOUNDS, and make sure all the sounds play OK. Then save the USER SOUNDS and USEr STYLES from the Pa2x into a new .SET file and then wipe the Pa2x and reload the new .SET file. This will ensure all the styles and sounds are properly converted to Pa800/Pa2x file format. Then modify the STYLES and select each of the USER sounds or DRUMKITS again.
If you don't do it this way, then USER STYLES linked to USER SOUNDS will not import correctly into the Pa2x and you will have broken links that will be difficult to repair later.
Best regards,
Rob

You need to learn about Style editing and assigning sounds to style tracks. It very time consuming and there is no software available to automate the process. I always advise people to create USER styles using factory sounds and drumkits only for that reason. As soon as styles are linked to user sounds and drumkits it is a big problem to maintain them.
Personally I would discard any Pa1x styles that are linked to user sounds and drumkits and start again fresh on the Pa2x, ensuring use of only factory sounds and drumkits. There's also lotsa free styles from MrNicenEasy and Rikkisbears for the Pa2x, you will probably find just what you want.
Best regards,
Rob

As Rob has said - MAKE SURE YOU REMOVE "GLOBAL" from your PA1XPro SET before loadin in the PA2XPro - GLOBAL settings are not compatible.
I have loaded my PA1XPro SOUNDS (samples) successfully - didn't have to change anything. Make sure you have those SOUNDS correctly "re-saved" in your PA1Xpro (OS 3.01). The 3.01 update manual explains this.
Cheers

Re: Pa1x Pro to Pa2x pro
There are many good thing said already. To add my 2c - I upgraded my Pa1x to Pa2x few months ago. I even started thread (and it has links to some other similar threads by Rob) http://www.korgforums.com/forum/phpBB2/ ... hp?t=47473Wares7 wrote:i want to buy a Korg PA2X PRO, but i am not sure if i can use my PA1X PRO SETs on the PA2X PRO.
My conclusion:
I fully backupped and saved all Pa1x Pro content (sounds, styles, settings etc, if you have saved your stuff into factory presets, be sure include these too into backup that can be read by Pa2) to its hard disk (partly also because I gave away Pa1x later and afraid that new owner messes it up somehow and "wants it back as it was in beginning") and copied then all Pa1x hard drive content to Pa2x hard drive into separate folder.
I was concerned particularly bringing over MIDI files, user sounds with their samples (I had purchased several ones too) and performanses. I was less concerned about styles and songbook entries.
Then with Pa2 I sarted slow recovery exactly what I wanted to bring from Pa1 to Pa2 in Media mode. I discovered that:
- Few styles I wanted to bring over worked reasonably well on pa2 or needed minor tweaking (track loudness, changed some instruments like bass line etc). I just did not exactly compare do they sound the same as on Pa1 but what seemed best at Pa2. I did not want me copy of pa1 on pa2 but something better.
- I did not bother with songbook migration, too little value for me, I created needed settings new on Pa2
- I was unhappy that some migrated performances (using factory sound) did not sound initially as good as on Pa1. My favorites were mainly differend combinations of Grand piano + added color by some e.piano + added ambiance by some pad. These just did not sound as on my Pa1 and I created new ones by the same principle but beginning from zero. It took a week until I got my Pa2 few favorite performances sound as good as on Pa1. They do not sound identically - this was not my intention, but as good or better. And byproduct of this creation was several variants almost as good as final performances.
- Several factory sounds on Pa2 with the same names and program numbers did not sound quite similar to Pa1 to me - probably the reason why I failed in previous point. Pa2 has onboard Master EQ - sounds may be little different because of its settings too...
- I migrated most of my samples and related SET-s. I have bought few from Irish Acts and collected several free ones from here and there. They seem to work OK on Pa2. Usually user sounds that were ready made with samples worked well in new instrument, but I rather use samples in my custom sounds and most of them I rebuilt anew on Pa2.
If you are busy performing musician then it is good idea to keep Pa1 ready and handy for few weeks until all works as expected (and possibly better
