Files transferable?

Post by satellite »

Pretty sure this shouldn't be a problem, but I bought a 73-key last year and have been so impressed I wish I'd gone straight for the 88. Before upgrading and selling off the old baby, can anyone verify that the saved files I made on the 73-key will work fine on the 88-key. All PCG & SEQ stuff.

Thanks in advance

Yes. There is no real difference between the two except for the build and keys.

Otherwise the ability to save files would be a bit useless......

Just out of interest - could you use the same files on the M3, although I assume you'd have to make adjustments to the instrument locations if the sounds didn't match?

I believe so. Programs would be okay. I imagine most of the timbre assignments for combis would be wrong... And there would be no arp patterns as the M3 has KARMA...

Hmmm, might hold off a while longer and go the whole hog then, hehe. Thanks for the info! Would be worth a few days work rebuilding the combis anyway...

The combis would be fine if you copied the M50's programs to the M3.

Combis only contain references to programs (not the programs themselves), so if you copy a combi to a new keyboard that doesn't have the same programs the combi refers to in the same slots, it'll sound different. Copying everything from the M50 to M3 will work, though you'll doubtless want to make sure you get the programs and combis from the M3 that you've modified.

Other than the M3 Expanded though, I'm not even sure that the factory combis and programs are different between the M50 and M3; they use the same sound engine, and other than the Karma vs. arpeggiator difference and the fact that the M3 has a ribbon (which could probably still be supported in M50 programs), there's no good reason for there to be one set of factory programs on one and another set of factory programs on the other.

Thanks for the advice - time to start saving the pennies again, methinks! :)
