Another videoDenkitribe has some really cool stuff done with other korg gear, and this sounds great too.
Korg's new Kaossilator Pro.

@sipa, yes if you read this whole thread it's clearly stated.
playing this with an external keyboard is a joke.
for $400 you could get a sweet REAL synth, such as the DSI mopho, or a soft synth like NI Massive that would be thousands of times more powerful and expressive. just my opinion, but i've turned rather sour on this device with all it's limitations...

I will get mine the next days. I bought it (among other things) to play away from computer.salamanderanagram wrote:but i've turned rather sour on this device with all it's limitations...
But how to play away from computer with no midi-keyboard playability and only 8bars below 108bpms.
8 bars is a constant loop, no problem but sometimes 16 and 32 would be really nice. and 350€ is a lot for a rotten compromise between a really god instrument and a lot of faults... so sad

I'm liking it but I think the market is limited. If you want serious synth or sampling capabilities, this isn't the best tool out there, better things are available in the same price range. The original K1 was so cheap and there was no direct competition, the KPro is now falling between several stools. I like it because I am not a keyboard player, I don't have space for keyboards and this will allow me to bring another dimension to my music (I am primarily a guitarist/bassist/vocalist). But I think many people will not find it so appealing because of the limitations.
I wish Korg luck but I wouldn't be surprised if this is not a huge success.

The way I'm trying to see it is that Korg are marketing it as a Dance/DJ product, which accounts for why the maximum loop length has to be so high. Not that I'm advocating it as a good idea.
Also, overall, £300/€350/$400 is not a bad price at all. Either in terms of what you DO get (and not its shortcomings) and in terms of pro audio equipment in general.
That's my view anyway. Not that I don't wish some or all of the problems noted on this forum would be fixed.

Decided to cancel order and buy second hand R3, got one for 350e. Shouldn't be disappointed, what do you think?salamanderanagram wrote:@sipa, yes if you read this whole thread it's clearly stated.

well hey, don't let me influence you too much!
i'm just saying, if you're looking for a *synth* this isn't really it. i've never played around with an R3 so i don't know too much about it, but it's bound to have far more features in terms of polyphony, velocity, programmable parameters like LFOs and evelopes, (so you aren't stuck with presets), etc.
i see the kpro as more of a realtime looper with some sounds built in.

I'm going to wait indefinitely to buy a KoPro until I can get one used at a good price from a disenchanted early adopter. Based on the features and problems, it's only worth about $200 to me.
The Akai SynthStation 25 for $99 is higher on my list, and I'll probably get that for 15-20% off street price.

This must be somekind of record, triplepost: Forum got me an error, so i thought it didn't send it at all, I fail.
Getting something instead of KOpro was my own idea, and R3 came across my way. I had high hopes for KOpro, like connecting it with usb to computer, chaining it with kp3, and playing it with midikeyboard. It has 100 programs to ante KO-1, and adjustable touchpad. I don't think its worth paying 350€, since it cannot do almost anything i had in mind.

saved from furter embarrasement, thanks.

Well, perhaps "serious" sampling may be overstating it, but I was looking at the MicroSynth, MicroSampler and Electribes at the same time as the KPro (OK, the Electribes are a bit more than the KPro but both are "serious" money). I think both the Microsampler and Electribe offer more in the way of sampling and sequencing, but the overall package of the Kpro and the XY pad is just right for me. I think if you are focused on sampling/sequencing or synthesis, you may go elsewhere.Mr36 wrote:@Kaoss Elation
You say that there are better things available in the same price range for serious sampling... I'm not meaning to sound confrontational, but like what?
Fair enough. I agree with you on that front. But then it is not a sampler as such and if it's one-hits and pre-made loops you want a device for, the Kaossilator Pro is definitely not the machine for you.
But its live looping function (ignoring the lower than expected loop time) can't really be bettered for the price unless you just want something for looping, then maybe a Boss RC-something or something like it would do you better.
However, then you don't get the bonus (which is how I'm seeing them) of the synth sounds and patterns.
