You don't simply 'delete' patches. Keyboards like these have no 'inifinate patch storage'. There are a finite number of slots and each slot contains a program - the name, all the parameters, effects routings, etc. The same goes for combis.

You can write an init (initialised - e.g. blank) patch over the ones you don't like. Or I believe you may be able to restore the factory default ones. But you can't simply 'delete' them.

You can write a program to another slot simply by navigating to it, and going to the 'write' dialog, but then choosing a different destination.

I imagine you are worried because maybe you overwrote a program you like and now you don't know how to go back. Well the simple answer is reload your factory data. That can be done in Global mode.

Once you have your data back, and next time you want to load a patch, get into Media mode, navigate to where the PCG file is, and instead of Load hit the Open button. That way you can navigate "inside" the PCG, enter Programs or Combinations and simply touch the one that call your attention. Don't hit anything else, just touch your keyboard and you'll be able to hear how it sounds BEFORE you load it into your keyboard.

Isn't it great ?

Once you decide the one you like, simply hit Load and select the bank and slot number you want it to be saved. Sometimes you might end up with no available slots. What I do is I overwrite the ones I don't use at all. But to keep track where I saved them I use the Category and Sub Category options, and all my patches are saved in My Progs Category. When I want to look for those sounds, I simply go to Category search mode, hit the My Progs tab and voila. All of the "non standard" sounds are there.

Hi. I'm new. Sorry for wanting to clarify the original question.
My m50 has lots of duplicate patches beginning with b c d e f g etc. I just want To keep the original a patches rather than have all the duplicates that I believe have been downloaded.
I've already started programming new patches Into the m50 so didn't really want to do a factory reset. How am I able to delete these duplicates ?
I don't want a small scroll bar at the bottom of the screen due to there been umpteen duplicates of the same patch.
Many thanks for any suggestions.

You can't delete programs. That has already been said. They aren't stored in any kind of file system: there is a fixed number of programs in a fixed number of slots.
There are 128 (0 to 127) programs in each of the 6 banks (A, B, C, D, E, and then the uneditable GM bank). You can't add or remove them, If you wanted to store more than 128x5 (=640) programs, you'd have to save some off to memory card.
So for example you can say there is a piano at A001, and a synth at A52 (for example). Each patch has a name and a category assignment.

The way KORG usually organises their banks, you will find variations of a similar type of patch across the banks. For example you may have 'Stereo Piano' in A001, and then 'Attack Piano' in B001, 'Mono Piano' in C001, etc.

You can replace a program with a 'blank' default one simply by writing an Init Program over it. (go to an init patch, press Write, and then choose a different location before Okaying the operation)

If you're concerned that you might not have all the factory programs, I suggest you do a backup by saving a PCG to the memory card, and then do a factory proload restore.

Then you can go through your PCG ('open' instead of 'Load') and load back in the individual programs that you want back.

Hi Bren,
First of all, those aren't duplicates that u downloaded. They're the factory patches - Korg decided to add variations to each Category. As said, there's no way to delete the number of patches. The only option you have is write over the ones you don't need. If you ever want those patches back just do the Global reset as already suggested. Also, if you save all your programmed patches to SD card, then you don't have to worry about losing them when you do the reset. Also, the tip about adding a category just to your sounds will help you navigate your patches more easily. Hope this helps :)

Thank you both for the replies.
I have been playing on it again tonight.
And using tips from this thread I've already learnt a few things about not overwriting original patches.
Yes. Making my own category is great. I'm learning songs for a few bands that requre different sounds and transposition so I need plenty of space but need them quickly accessible. I can hopefully have them in their own individual categorys. Possibly even in running order. and I see I can also name the cats After the bands so that's a great bonus too
Thanks for the tips.
Bren.
