Assigning loop to a key

Post by Raccoon »

I recently bought a used Korg TR 76. I have no idea what I'm doing. Tried reading the manual, and got lost very quickly.

Basically, what I would like to do is just play a simple riff that lasts maybe 2 measures, record it, and let it play when I hit the key it's assigned to.

Can anybody help me? I'm really new to all of this. As in, just bought it this afternoon.

You want to use RPPR. That is available in sequencer mode.

There is a great video about RPPR for the M3, a lot of it applies to the triton series too. Because the LE and TR (and KARMA, Triton Rack) don't have a touchscreen, some of the layout will be different but the basic things to look for and technique is the same:

I used to use a TR and recently moved over to a KARMA, and I've only just decided to watch this video recently. Now I'm thinking I should have done it a while ago! RPPR is something which eludes many Korg workstation users but is actually quite powerful and simple.

Extremely helpful video! Definitely not the same look of the TR screen, but the menu options and functions are definitely exactly similar. Quite easy to play around with.

Now, I have another question.

I had assigned loops to all my keys. Loved all my hard work. Thought I had saved it properly, went back later on and realized it was gone. How do you correctly save the assigned and recorded RPPRs?!

I also recreated the RPRP's and key assignments, but I'm too afraid to turn my TR off again, because I fear losing them...

In sequencer mode, you have to save your work to a memory card (through 'media' or 'disk' mode). Sequences are not saved at power-off.

Some of us use sequencer mode instead of combi mode for our live performances. It allows storing a number or sequences for different songs in order, it allows up to 16 tracks instead of the 8 timbres in combi mode, you have all the same features as combi mode - arpeggiator, effects, etc, plus RPPR.

Also it means I can have several different versions of a live set saved on a memory card, and files of just the individual songs to construct the sets through using 'append' instead of 'clear' loading mode.

So I need to put an SD card in, and then I can save my RPPRs and key assignments just the way they are?

I also do not have the sampling upgrade. Does this affect what I'm trying to do in any way?

PS - thanks for your help, your answers are extremely helpful! I've spent the past few days just buried in my TR and I feel I'm getting more comfortable with it. It's a pretty powerful toy, that's for sure.

No, the sampling upgrade isn't even necesary to load your own samples either - you just have to have RAM installed, and you can actually load KORG format files straight from the media card.

Anyway, that's off-topic for this point.

You would be saving a sequencer song file - of a song that contains your RPPR patterns as part of the song's setup data.
