ER1, craigslist....did I get screwed or am I just dumb?

Hi all,

I searched all around for my answers, but still to no avail...can I ask two questions?

I bought an ER-1 from someone off Craigslist, and I think it is broken. When I press the accent or part 4 buttons during playback, the led scrolls the word 'electribe' and restarts....WTF???? Its also happened a couple times randomly, but every time I hit those buttons, only during playback, it shuts off. This has to be a problem, but I'm confused as to why these buttons do it so consistently.

Second, if this thing isn't broken, I must be missing something. I can't get Logic to serve as a tempo/snyc master to the ER-1. Can anyone here treat me like an idiot please and just type the 3 or so things you need to do to get it working, just so I can make sure that I am not missing something?

So far, I:

Set the midi sync on the ER1 to external

Set two things in Logic - transmit MIDI clock, and transmit MIDI time code.

I would never trust anyone on Craigslist EVER!!
Ive heard to many bad things ,in future try ebay this way at least you covered if things turn bad with payapl,reguardless if the seller states no returns or refunds ..payapl will be in your favour!!

I was almost screwed over by a seller on ebay when i purchased a minidisc recorder from the seller .
The seller stated the items was in good working order and no refunds given ....well after it arrived it wouldnt play or recorded ,and after having a few words with the seller about the item ,he was mean ,so off to paypal i went and they refunded me my money for the damm item from the sellers account
