I read an ad for a second hand radias, seller said that the data wheel was not making correct steps when turning it fast.
This seems to be a common problem with endless rotary encoders and i have noticed this on similar encoders on Novation Nova, Waldorf Q and more.
How reliable is the data wheel on the radias, how long lifetime before trouble? And it is possible to repair/exchange easily?
Radias Data wheel - any known problems?

I had this problem initially but it seems to have gone away after a few months of use. It recurred once, but fixed by blowing air into the knob to clean it.
It can be quite annoying when you try to speed all the way to the end of a selection and find yourself back at the start!

cleaning the encoders with a q-tip and some cleaning alcohol helps a lot. Dust and grease usually settle on the inside (they usually look a bit like a dar board made of copper). I've taken apart my Novation Nova, my Yamaha DX200 and my Yamaha a4000 and done this. It helps a lot. You have to take apart the encoders themselves too; the top side usually is clamped down by 4 smal metal fingers that you have to pry loose.
Be careful when you do this though - it's not difficult but it's easy to damage the insides of your machine.
Whatever you do: do not use contact spray or just pore stuff into the shaft of the encoders - it will only make things worse in time.

i have a novation nova since 2000 and i just love it... the problem is i dont use it anymore because of some problems with knobs and buttons.so i decided to take it apart in order to clean it.when i remove the case i saw 2 boards one on top of the other.the top board is the small board.can you give me instructions how to remove this small board?
i couldn't remove it and i didn't want to pull it hard...please give me some good info about this... i am trying to fix this synth for so long now and besides i can't do it ..i cant find any useful info on the net.
thanks in advance
It is very annoying! I have the same problem. When I turn it fast back (from 127 to 0) it works fine, but when fast forward - the values don't change or change for smaller values. To cope with it I weigh my thumb on the wheel and turn it with forefinger. Or use SoundEditorX-Trade wrote: It can be quite annoying when you try to speed all the way to the end of a selection and find yourself back at the start!
