is a password protect system necessary on a PA Keyboard
I have started this thread so that we can continue the discussion on the benefits of having a password protection on any or all of the PA products.
Maybe i have missed something but i would like to know the circumstances where anyone has in REALITY become the victim of sample or set theft from someone directly accessing their PA product and stealing their work by copying their work onto a memory stick.
Please post the make of your keyboard and the date the theft occured and the circumstances surrounding the theft.
I suggest that we come back and review the results after 2 weeks to see how wide spread and to what extent this problem ACTUALLY is.
Thank you

thanks Giner. But for now can we keep the thread purely for those people who have actually had their sets or samples stolen from their keyboard. When we see the actual evidence that this is occuring and the frequency and the circumstances surrounding the theft then it is easier to push this matter for the attention of Korg or simply let it drop.
i dismissed the idea (some would say out of hand ) so i am willing to see if there is genuine merrit to the proposal rather than just opinions.
Cheers

No matter how much we whine about it.. because if it is not passed on to KORG then they will have no clue about this post / thread.
I've already spent time to put things together for an OS update and Locking the keyboard is in the features with a possible SOLUTION I've come up with.

some1uk03. Thanks for your response but thats not what is being asked here on this thread. The point of this thread is to assess the need for this additional OS upgrade to incorpaorate the feature you suggest. This thread is to actually assess the need for the feature based upon REAL ACTUAL cases of sample or set theft. Please keep this thread to this issue only. If your sets or samples were stolen from your keyboard without your consent please post the following
1. The make and model of the Keyboard
2. what was stolen
3. what were the circumstances ie was it during a break in a performance, had you left the keyboard unattaended for a long time etc
Thats all you need to post

I played at a gig about a month ago, it was around 4 hours long.
I took a break in the middle to go to the bathroom, before i left i turned off the keyboard.
When i came back, i noticed that some young guy had turned on the keyboard, loaded up some sets, and started taking over the show!!
Luckily he didnt steal anything, but he couldve stole sets and sounds, or change my settings!!!
How absurd!

a few years ago i was playing in a hotel, with pa1x, and our instruments were staying on stage, there is security person, we were playing every night, but once i got up earlier to load some new sounds and i saw some guy turned on my keyboard, and he was doing some things and take out my set... he is some relative of hotel manager, and he said just wanted to take my set to compare with his at home.....
i got pissed off... average good set here is not less than 300-400 euros... i don pay i make them myself, i was making it to long... i had to many unsleeped nights... to give my set so easy... its not problem to sell, I DONT WANNA SELL MY SET, I WANNA SOUND DIFFERENT!!! and i have a lot of friends that dont now english to express them self here on forum, but every1 of them had similar event in career....
p.s. this is just 1 of my events...

nothing stolen yet.......but just because my keyboard sounds "fantastic"
every tom, Dick and Harry wants to play my keyboard during breaks. It is my show!!!!!!!!
(I dont want to turn off the power because of boot time)
For now I have bought patch cords that have switches at one end. (Bought at Long and Mcquade in Vancouver B.C.)

if you know of people who dont come on this forum that have the same problem please encourage them to post here. If english is not their first language they can post in their own language so long as they state at the beggining what that language is . Right now i just want to get the numbers . I will come back and review this everyday for the next two weeks.
so far the count is 3 and no actual thefts of anything.

I have not had anything stolen or any attempt made to play my keyboards over the years, however, I am ALWAYS within view of my gear - it cost me a lot of money and time so I don't let it out of sight. When I have played in places where there was a possibility that someone might want to play my keyboard, I leave it covered and powered off - on one occasion I simply took the power cord with me just in case. OK you can argue against all of this but it seems you are wanting protection against people who turn up a gigs with USBs flash drives at the ready and are experienced with Korg PA technology.
I look at it like this - if someone went to the extent of replacing the power cord, turning on my keyboard, inserting a USB and started copying files I would be talking to the bouncers !!!!
So as Worth has asked - who has actually had SET/MIDIs etc. stolen?

i have, i did a great set for balkan music with live drums... i record one of best drummers here and then i made live patterns and convert them into loops for pa800 and in small place like mine when u do something good every1 wants to have same set... so i left my keyboard in club over night coz i was playing whole weekend and now i hear my rythms in almost every pa800 here... and i it cost me a lot... studio, mixing, production, gas for drummer and few more ppl it cost me over 300-400 euros and more... and i dont wanna mention my time spent over keyboard to load and set every sound, loop and rythm into f***n BIG 64mb ram... and u ask me do i need system password? Yes i need.
Ask every musician here on balkans, u will get same answer...

I've left my keyboard over the weekends at clubs/bars etc.. and even took my power cable with me home, but the next night I've seen a power cord already on the keyboard. SO obviously someone has fiddled around and played with my keyboard. I certainly have spent countless off hours preparing/combining sets & sounds etc... Now I don't move away 1 min from my keyboard in case someone comes along.
There is a definite need to be able to LOCK the screen to also stop KIDS/Children fiddling around on the keyboard. It is also possible to add this in the next OS, as i mentioned in the previous post, so they should!

thanks guys. so now we have 3 owners affected and 1 suspected theft. I am surprised that in the one account of theft the thief had all the time in the world to actually steal the keyboard as it was left unattended overnight but did not. Seems they knew exactly what they were after. Keep them coming thanks.
