Noob recording question

I'm pretty much new to this sort of stuff, however I bought the K-Pro and am really enjoying it.

However could anyone tell me what the easiest way is to record my music on PC? I'm not talking about transferring the saved loops to the PC because that works fine, I'd just like to be able to record real time. I've got the K-Pro, a PC and Sony Acid, and just can't get it to record!

Personally I think the best option is to get a RCA - 3.5mm jack lead, or failing that 3.5mm - 3.5mm, then make sure you go to LINE IN / MIC.

If you have this setup already then you shouldn't be having issues, don't know about Sony Acid but I use sony Vega Pro and you need to arm a track before you can record to it.

You could check Audacity, it's free and is very basic, but it works.

How are you connecting the KPro to the PC?

And I'd go for Reaper as the DAW.

I've tried a couple of ways, even midi-usb cable but no joy. I haven't tried samartin's method so will give that a shot - thanks!

Yes Reaper looks good so may switch to that!

the USB connection only carries MIDI data. And the MIDI connection carries, well, MIDI data.

You won't get any audio (sound) from a MIDI connection. MIDI is for controlling things and sending performance data - which notes you play, which program/sound you choose, which controls you adjust...

You have to hook up the audio outputs to an external audio interface or soundcard or connections on your computer.
Note that using the microphone connection on some computers will yield terrible results because it uses a microphone preamp, so you will most likely get distortion.

Thanks. Any recommendation for a reasonable audio interface in case the mic options doesn't work out?
