ES-1 with MIDI Foot Controller (FC200)

I'm trying to use my ES-1 as a looper/sample launcher while playing guitar.

I have a Roland FC200 foot controller -- it can send program change/control change/ and note messages -- but not at the same time.

I can use note change mode to launch individual samples on the ES-1. But I can't send start /stop messages.

I can send start/stop messages in program change and control change mode, but not notes.

Is there a way to program the ES-1 to receive Control Change messages as Notes?

need a computer with bomes midi or midi ox to translate in between

Then I'd just use the computer as the sampler and ditch the ES-1 ... I might go that way anyway, since the ES-1 only allows 95 secs of samples.
