trying to sample onto my R3. need some help from a pro.
ok, here's what i'm trying to do. I know there's a proper way to record i believe 7 seconds of audio into the R3. if not, will someone help me to know or help me to learn how to do such a recording. the reason is i'd like to get a good few drum sounds recorded even if only to save one per patch so i can use a sample of a real kit. any detailed instructions would be appreciated. please don't laugh. thanks.
You can't do it.
The 'formant motion' does not actually store the sound, but the analysis side data of the vocoder - that is, the changing volume levels over time of each of the 16 bandpass filters that make up the vocoder bands.
So that isn't a whole sound. Furthermore there is no way to use those in a normal program - you have to engage the vocoder, and can only use one at once.
The R3 is a synthesiser. If you want to do sampling you should buy a sampler (microsampler? akai rack?) or a sampling workstation (M3? Triton?), or use a software sampler on your computer.
Even the RADIAS has a few samples on board but they are stored in ROM (read only memory) and you can't load your own. The RADIAS has a drum section but that uses just the built in samples and the synthesis waves and parameers for each of the 16 drum parts.
Quite simply, the R3 is not a sampler. It is a synthesizer. They are two fairly different things.
